sporadic errors while setting up modules

I keep getting this kind of error, though the url changes, while I try and update the modules.  Sometimes they work and then I go to make a change and even though I click the same buttons - mostly settings- I will get this kind of error.  Can anyone provide insight as to what is going on?

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Would like to add that when I click on the items under the module listing - the ones on the left I get the error for every item.  If I click on module and then select them from the right then sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt and I get the error message saying it was not found.
