its just plain not working

Im having all kinds of trouble with the software.  I have installed it and used it before so Im not a total newbie.

I keep getting error messages where the constant seems to be the errordocument to handle the request.  I am now getting this message when I try to register as a user.

The requested URL /m/avatar/&join_text=_EMAIL_CONF_SENT was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Can anyone help me out with maybe some insight as to what is happening.  I am also getting these errors while trying to set up modules and have posted another topic about that.

thanks in advance!

either your server cant handle mod_rewrite or you are missing the default .htaccess in the root folder of the dolphin install.

thank you!

can you tell me where that htaccess file is so I can check if it is the right one?  I see it installed on my server but not sure where it comes from or how to check it.

If it's under the main Dolphin directory, then I'd move onto his other question and make sure mod_rewrite works.  Are you running Apache?

yes I'm running Server version: Apache/2.2.23 (Unix)

I just realised that the htaccess file is 0kb. is this correct?

No, it must be corrupted.  Re-upload the file from the download ZIP.

thank you very very much!

Can you tell me where in the dolphin software that file is located?

Have a great day

when you set up a new domain on a server it uploads a blank .htaccess by default.

I've attached the default htaccess for 7.1.1

hi, I uploaded the .htaccess file you gave me but it stop me from being able to log into the admin area or client area.  Thanks for the help but I guess I need to contact the server folks and go from there.

I appreciate your trying and teaching me a thing or two.

I was able to put the .htaccess file onto the root folder.  I am still having trouble with the modules.  I have attached the warnings I get,  Warning1.doc shows the errors when I install and error.doc shows what happens when I uninstall.  The second doc is 35 pages long but I only sent the first page.

I am so confused as to what is happening.  I have installed this software before and had no trouble, now I cant make it work.

For the modules that do install, when I try to update them I get this error. - The requested URL /m/avatar/administration/ was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you redo the doc files into a text file, doc files required a download and open in an external programme.

All of those errors are coming from the same module class. The issue has been discussed here.

http://www.boonex.com/forums/topic/Upgrade-issue-Wmap-module.htm

The fix as posted in that topic.

Download modules/boonex/world_map/classes/BxWmapModule.php file, edit it by removing any unusual characters or lines in the beginning of the file just before <?php, or change encoding from UTF8 with BOM to UTF8 without BOM (if editor has this feature), upload back to the server.

thank you, I will give it a try.  I appreciate your taking the time to help.

the forums are informative but it is hard for a beginner to even know where to look so thank you so very much

Thanks, that stopped those errors, I am still getting sporadic errors like the ones below when I click on some of the modules.

The requested URL /m/avatar/administration/ was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

The requested URL /m/events/administration/ was not found on this server.

That one you will have to contact your host. The .htaccess file is not getting processed.

Have you checked in admin under tools - Host tools for problems?

Also by root folder, what do you mean.

Most people do not fully understand what root means when we say it. When we say root, we refer to the main folder your dolphin site is installed in.

So it would help us to know what path your dolphin site is located in, and exactly where you placed the .htaccess file.

root for me is the main folder so I think we are on the same page.  I will contact the hosting company since we have been going back and forth regarding the .htaccess folder.  Thank you very much
