I am trying to reach Modzzz and have not been able to reach him is he still around?

Some people get their knickers in a twist over the silliness of things.

I usually don't respond to these posts because the posters already know I am still around. If at any point I decide to remove myself from Dolphin, this will be clearly communicated via the forum.

Huh?? What word? Knickers? Which BTW is still quite commonly used in the UK, Ireland and South Africa. So i do not know why you would think the word is no longer used. And i still don't know how you get racism out of it. To me "knickers in a twist" is just a phrase that translates to "All bent out of shape"

Modzzz normally replies quite well but I have sent him numerous emails about this issue dealing with the logic that connects other aspects of the site to the module.  He is an outstanding programmer and he indeed gets very busy.  I have sent him numerous upgrade requests which he responded with he is to busy for custom work.  I understand that quite well and accept that.  I so however have issues when I have repeatedly told him about this logic issue which I did pay for the ability to do quite a while ago and gave him the idea to do which he added to his module and he won't fix this issue.  Not being able to attach blocks of properties to specifically designed pages after I paid him to be able to is an issue.

I also posted the logic issue on his support forum and still nothing...

Once I had to wait for 4.5 weeks to get my answer and one time no reply after 4 pm's and I got pissed off.
But i guess he gets loads of questions/emails/pm. And don't forget he has 150+ active mods to work on...

I am not sure what to say.  Modzzz is a good developer and he answers questions fairly quickly but I think he stays very busy.  Plus, I have the feeling he gets a lot of PMs and thus it may be easy to miss one.

Just try to not get frustrated and try again; I am sure he is not ignoring you but may be researching before answering.

The frustration level comes from wanting and needing support to take my site to the next level.  He understands this module better than anyone else.  Busy?  We are all busy... Dealing with 600,000 listings multiple MLS platforms, every changing tax data and every bit of it changing on a minute by minute basis.  Dealing with a million pictures and MLS systems that change platforms and field names on a quarterly basis.  Let alone platform changes with Dolphin and Host Gator imploding with transfers to their Provo data center which goes down more than a questionable woman in the back seat of a car.  I know what I need but don't know who to get it from.  Been here for years 6 or more and never thought I would not get support from the mod developer that is needed the most.  To see these other posts simply is making it worse not better.  I need serious people who can get the job done... 

Sounds awful!  I know your frustration.  Hope you can find someone to help you :)

@csampson1 - You sent me several emails requesting various custom work. I responded and told you that I was unavailable right now because I was up to my neck presently with current jobs I am working on. Even after being told that you continue to send me more requests for custom work. And now you are getting angry and venting in the forum because I have not accepted your custom jobs ? Are you saying that I should abondon the clients I am presently working for and start working on your stuff ? Not many developers are doing Dolphin custom work. People like myself are bombarded with hundreds of custom work requests. It is not humanly possible to accept them all. I have people waiting for months for me to do custom work for them and I am unable to reach to them. There are limitations to the amount of work any human being can do within a given time and people need to understand that. The fact that most of you here venting cannot find anyone else to do what you want shows the huge demand for the services of competent Dolphin freelancers. Most other mod developers just concentrate on mod development/support and don't even  venture into custom work because of the difficulty in doing both. However I try to do both because of the sheer demand. There is no conspiracy theory here and I do not have a personal vendetta against anyone. I am simply busy and unable to accept any job requests presently.

 That answer from Modzzz is completely fair and understood.  The problem I see is the answers back to custom work request after saying you were to busy for custom work how am I to parse those type answers?  I have no expectations ever of you dropping anything to help me about custom work and it always seems to be a common response.  Know this I have no idea what your schedule is.  Perhaps a status button on your boonex page would be helpful.  I am not a mind reader nor try to be.  I have two logic issues one you have addressed in an email dealing with video uploads and requested almost a year ago with the Real Estate module.  The second is the block attachment to any page in the system that now not only bleeds across modules but does not operate correctly as given in great detail on the support page of the module.  I only ask you to address those issues 1 paid and one just a basic function to the module.  I will hire others for the upgrades.  I appreciate your efforts and hope you can address these CORE issues as soon as you can.

I plan to do this on a mass scale for uploads this was a simple test and it worked but if I can't label them correctly it will lose it's punch for SEO....PLease advise on this...      

What I really need is for the module to find a mls# identified photo in a folder to fill the thumbnail.  This seems like such an easy fix with 500,000 properties uploading individual images is enough to drive a person to drinking... :-) and thank you for your concern any thoughts?

I have pointed this class out several times.  The license for the class is GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE Version 2, June 1991.  I have used the class in projects myself.  It can generate thumbnails on the fly from a directory of images; no need to generate and store thumbnails on the server.

I am not sure I followed all that, I will probably need a flow chart to understand how it is suppose to work.

CS, have you looked at AndrewP's real estate module? Andrew is usually pretty receptive about making changes to his modules. I share your pain.  For my needs, there are modules in the market that have the right name, but they are just toys as far as I'm concerned... they fall dismally short in any serious professional application.  99percent of the offerings in the market fall into the "toy" category in my opinion. Somewhere along the road, I'll need to recruit some coding help, but I haven't a clue where it will come from.  I'm building a database that when finished, will contain at least one million records, so I understand some of the challenges you face.

I am not a programmer but let me ask it this way...This picture is with generic thumbs based on status could what you are suggesting run in a cron to fill the thumbnails with the house photo which is in a file?  I want to purchase the 500,000 photo's for every property in orange county so each thumb will have a photo of the property whatever that may be...Modzzz simply uses the photo module number assigned to photo uploads.  He uses a separate table to identify the connection between one that is uploaded in the property module but and however it will see that same photo if only the number assigned in the photo module is put in the thumb field in the property module table see this picture.  I.E if you upload massive numbers of photos with a sorting order or hook field then it becomes easier to simply add the number to the thumb property field if uploaded in the photo module.  This also avoids a dual picture appearing in the property module because the main property pictures are handled by a different process...  

If I put that number in that field below it will work...

@HL Yes indeed you could not be more correct and once again your wisdom is a very welcome.  I have spent years day and night learning this platform because it does offer more than a toy in other areas as you are aware of and if I am correct is the reason you stay as well. 

There has been a recent change in my data sources and a complete epiphany has been the result.  I.E. what use to be completely and complexly a pathetic source is now changed to a one source process that no longer has property classes with various fields all changing by the time you finally got all of it together.  Also changing is the ability to have offsets that without crippled the downloads to challenge even the best to keep it accurate.  I can now get all the data in one pull and completely accurate with ALL FIELDS.  Therefore I am ready willing and able to take this to the next level with incredibly accurate information and the only adjustments I need seem so trivial in nature like adding fields to the property view page and adjustments to the search page which indeed I am already talking to trusted programmers about.  

I agree Andrew is very responsive and I am already talking to him and thank you for the suggestion.  The real issue is the SEO foundation already built by the module I have in place.  I am convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that to not make this a "TOY" and a serious tool with what I have already added to the database by both fields and information would take probably "anyone" here an hour to add the fields to the property view page.  Once the "Toy Like" search page is revised then I really would have a serious tool and far from a toy.  I know exactly what I want and need and they seem like such trivial additions...

This is beyond frustrating as for the first time it really is a perfect storm of information, the right server configuration (wrong host) and Dolphin without major changes to it's platform as well.  This is why I have some urgency to get this done so I can actually have more than a "Toy" which is a great analogy to this point.  I will accept anyone's help and will do whatever it takes I just did not want to cross code in an application...

What you need is a different approach.  One, you could use class_upload to automatically generate and store the thumbnails for each of the 500,000 photos.  Or the module can generate the thumbnail on the fly using class_upload (what I mean by this is that the thumbnail is created from the original photo and sent to the browser; it is not an actual file).  You really don't want the module requiring you to upload 500,000 photos; not unless you are using something like the java uploader from the market.   

I would need to look at the module and have some sample photos to see what can be done.

Another question is how you are going to add 500,000 listings, are the listings in an importable format such as csv?

@GG the properties are already there...and Yes I do need a different process for the thumbnails but have no clue what that would be...

Everything is already there including 1,000's of thumbnails and want all 500,000 which is a simple purchase but want the process in place first...

If it were me, I would use the external data as-is to build a separate API that could be interrogated by the real estate module to pull the required information as needed on-the-fly.  I assume the necessary associations are in place to be able to do this. This way, you don't have to rename images or reconstruct the outsourced data.

@ HL Yes there are mls#'s for each photo in a folder which is also available in the main table.  There is also a path just like this for each and every property in the database for a property that has activity it seems so easy to me that a simple line should be able to point the programming to this path for the thumbnail as an alternative if the thumb was not manually added and the "ID" is not there...  the only real thing needed would be to resize it to fit the thumbnail size 145 x 95.  Most everyone knows if run through the system that thumb is generated but I could care less about how it gets there...

How in the world could this be that big of an issue?  The field was added by me and drives the photo's that are in a folder and are as you call it associated with the property view page and the hook is the path and the mls number...

First of all, to get thumbs out of all the photos, there are a number of batch image resizers that will get the job done quickly.  You definitely want to process the images on your pc and zip them up... google 'pixresizer'. You don't mention how the photos in the purchased database are named, or how the overall data is constructed.  It's difficult to make any meaningful suggestions without knowing exactly what you have to work with. The solution could be something as simple as calling the photos from the template files, if the image names are derived from mls #s

OK first let me say even with them at full size they are very small in nature.  Our MLS is smoosing them for us already.  In other words they do the heavy lifting of sizing them or reducing them for use to as small as they can go.  I tried to even make them smaller at one point and Yahoo laughed at me and said it can't get smaller. 

My only touching of the photo's comes from what you suggested to me with the program instacropper that removes all the white space.  These facts mean to me that it is simply a resizing of a photo like this one:

All I do is remove the white space and then upload them to the right folder.  I use the path to direct the picture player to the right pictures as given in the last reply. 

My first hope would to be able to see the MLS photo's in the thumbnail spots.  I was thinking why not just put the path to the one picture in the thumb field so it would look for either the id and or a path.  I have no idea how the other pictures are labeled but I am thinking it will be by tax-id and I might have to resize those pictures PC side which would not be an issue...

Without knowing how, or if image names are associated with the mls id, I cannot comment further.  That is something you should find out.It's important.

All the images on both sites have the mls# the new photo's that I have not purchased yet are the ones I am talking about that I am not sure how they will be named...But I have over a million with MLS#'s.

Let me be more clear there are 435,000 properties in my database which are tax records for Orange county those are tax records and not mls listings.  So there is no way to associate a mls# with a tax record until it comes on the market for sale.  The only hook that they could use would be the taxid number.  There are 2 sources here tax records which include everyone then when they go on the market they become a MLS listing...

 I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that you didn't name those yourself.  I'd expect that those you have yet to purchase will be named in a similar fashion, if not in exact fashion.

Assuming all that is so, I the easiest approach is to let the purchased images reside in their own folder, and corresponding thumbs in another folder.  I don't own this real estate module, nor will I ever, so I don't know if there are any existing template keys that relate to mls #.  If there were, you could use the key to generate the full image path to the image to use in a template html file. 

Some imaginary code as an example:

By this example, you'd upload the images and thumbs to the folders highlighted in blue.  Then, the only custom coding is a function that that parses the key __mls_id__ and replaces it with the actual mls id or derivative thereof, which would then provide the complete image path.

Bottom line, I agree in your assessment that what you ask should be a fairly simple thing to do.  But, as you are finding out, even simple changes are hard to get done.  Modzzz is probably busy as all hell working on a cool new towels module or something.

 He responed after two hours on my modification request about the job modul ( his pay pal detals and price (50US)was  back to me asap) but he was not so quick to answer to my questions about the function of the modification....

So it looks like you have to pay the modification without knowing what u buy.. and pray to God this modification will be fine for me.I even registered on their web site and sent them the same questions about this job modul modification but no answer.....

What is the point to offer modication if u cant explain to your customers what can u do for them or what u can not do is also a good start...is it?

All I ever asked for is - is it possible to control what levels of memberships can see the employers details?

Well if the employers details is on own page or within blocks you can indeed control which membership see the employer details ... you can use Page Access Control to achieve this and control which pages or blocks are able to be viewed and by which membership.
