Nightly updates on what is being worked on now would be pretty damned awesome like most other platforms....heck, once a month would be good around here
I haven't pulled the latest SVN, when I did it had the most recent Boonex module added. Site customizer. http://www.boonex.com/forums/topic/Site-Customizer-a-new-BoonEx-module.htm Glad to see payments being updated. ManOfTeal.COM a Proud UNA site, six years running strong! |
I hope they have included fixes for fully responsive templates, as Google will be knocking site's out of front search results with the algorithm upgrades beginning from July, any site that is not fully responsive or mobile friendly will be severely penalised in search results. That is what turned me away, as Boonex has previously indicated they have no plans on upgrade to responsive templates in core upgrades. From the land DownUnder |

I really can't see.....and damn well hope.....that it isn't high on their list of priorities!! I can't imagine there are too many Dolphin sites ranked highly by Google anyway to justify setting that a priority. Maybe then people round here will realize that even caring about ranking on Google should be extremely low on their own list of priorities. If Google wants to rank your site highly it will do, if it doesn't it won't.....no matter what you do to it & the sooner people realize that the easier they'll sleep at night & not be stressing about it! |
Google is about making money and being as evil as they can. It would be nice if Google disappeared tomorrow as well as FaceSucks and Twitter and the rest. People the world over should demand public domain search engines that are not tied to some for mega-profit corporation. Google has gotten worthless for finding any real information. Geeks, making the world a better place |

Most of the searches I do with Google it is worthless. I find myself trying to override Google's changes and doing plus and minuses (which I don't even know if Google honours any longer) and using quotes and still not finding what you know exists and you have to search for google advance to go to the advance search. No Google, I don't want you searching for what you think I wanted, search for what I tell you to search on. Geeks, making the world a better place |

This is very inaccurate. Yes its true they are money digger (aren't all big corps) but its also true that if google suddenly disappear the web would have a major problem. http://thestir.cafemom.com/technology/159943/google_shuts_down_for_5 btw i witnessed the gmail down so much to do.... |

seriously? If you want keyword search use the search on the site you know the information exists. They have spend so much time on that algorithms to understand human languages and sentence searches and i find it very useful. so much to do.... |
Google's only goal is to make money, they can not make money by giving me information, they have to try and present me with crap that generates them revenue. Google has long ceased to be a decent search engine; not that Bing is any better. In the early days Google was about providing a good way to find information; now it is only about making money. Geeks, making the world a better place |
Hey, I am glad that google provides what others need in a search engine. For me it does not because I search for different things I suppose that is about data, about information. I constantly have to twist the search parameters around to get my data results, often pages and pages of worthless crap is returned. There was a search engine for information being built at one time, I can not remember the name. I tested it at the time and it was still too early to be useful but it was a hope for something to replace the Google mess. I am not interested in film stars and FaceSucks. Geeks, making the world a better place |
I use google exclusively now as well. I don't have a problem with them. The thing about google that ticks me off the most is all the projects thay start and then dump later. Or the ones that were free and are now used to make money. I was a heavy user of Google Apps when i ran a ISP. I used it for email services so i would not have to run my own email servers. The spammers were killing my email servers so i piped it through google apps accounts instead. It's no longer free. Which really sucks as it was quite useful for small businesses with little money. https://www.deanbassett.com |
I don't agree with the way Google does business either, but as search engines go they are far better than anything else out there. If they were to go away we would be stuck using those other ones that any 12 year old can trick to get their site on page 1. GG, you couldn't more wrong here. Your forgetting just how many countries use Google, not just google.com. Looking at just a clip of hits to one of my sites via google worldwide, and like I always have stressed, no money ever paid to them. I wouldn't be online if not for Google. I'm making plenty of cash from the ads on the site. Just one company. No matter what world wide google engine you use, I'm on the first page for my keywords. Considering Google sifts though about two billion pages to find things for you, they do a pretty good job. The results are only as good as the search criteria. My favorite use of Google is finding things that never should have been indexed in the first place. The Google index is an absolute gold mine. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |

OK, whatever. Geeks, making the world a better place |
What makes me laugh is I only needed to sneeze on a site & Googlebots were back. I remember last year doing a site with Wordpress for someone which had the Better Security plugin. I bet I'm not far out at estimating about 30 or so visits a day from them. They'd leave & be back again in 5 minutes, lol! I'd deliberately edit the slightest thing to force them back again & sure enough it worked! |
Currently over 60% of people are using mobile devices to search the web, all leave a site in less than 5 seconds if it's not mobile ready. So putting Google aside, what about your possible members or site visitors using mobile devices, you can kiss them goodbye, not everyone is going to download and install your mobile app just to search or use your site. From my understanding there is no effort for Boonex to include the required fixes, I believe they have already been pointed out to them. As far as template developers making non responsive templates, that is a thing of the past, serious, that would be the same as Samsung or similar making and trying sell large Flat Screen, Black & White TV's, who would want them, they will go out of business. Why does Boonex think that Dolphin is exempt.... Not everyone using Dolphin wants to build a sleaze site of some type, if memory serves me right, I recall something about a social network platform. What's a Google? Doesn't everybody still use AOL & Yahoo's search engines? |

I have to agree with geek_girl though. Google search results have become increasingly, and frustratingly, irrelevant. Even using the advanced features I find myself spending much more time than I used to. If Google is going to make it so that you need to know all of the ropes to find what you're looking for they are going to find themselves looking for work eventually. The 'average user' isn't going to waste time learning their system. |
RE: The 'average user' isn't going to waste time learning their system.
Then the average user will have to settle for useless scraps, and that's all they deserve if they can't be bothered to educate themselves on how to use a system to their advantage.
For any of you that don't like your "google results", this might make good reading: http://www.googleguide.com/advanced_operators_reference.html
I hope that can conclude the discussion about Google, because this topic is supposed to be about the incredibly slow development of Dolphin 7.1.5 My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
LOL> Neither topic really deserves to be discussed anyway so what's the difference? http://towtalk.net ... Hosted by Zarconia.net! |
Just a brief update, but please don't mind if it's a little vague ;-). Just don't want to stir up things too much before it's time. Yes, we are working on both 7.1.5 and the 8 now. Among other things, as noted we want to improve the "money-making" aspect, thus hopefully assisting web-masters "bottom-line". Also PayPal team has been very proactive, seeing Dolphin as more prominent platform. We are also doing a lot in terms of "concentrating on the core" and "mobile-friendly/flexible layout" and some other conceptual improvements. This time some VERY limited private testing will be done before anything goes public. This [testing] starts in a matter of days in fact. Since it's mostly about core anyway, we'd rather involve end-users a little later. I posted about this period of "silence" a few months ago and we have had a great run, building some great stuff. Will be back with you shortly. :D Heart Head Hands |
It sounds like you guys are caterind to all the porn site wannabes with all this payment stuff.
I hope version 8 is void of all this dating site crap. If it isn't, the least you can do for those of us working on something more realistic, is give us options during installation that allow us to select what type of site we want to install Dolpin for. I'd like to. see an installation option that leaves all the damn dating matchmaking crap behind, and doesn't even clutter up the DB with it.

I was going to chime in, but you pretty much beat me to it HL. give us options

Payment systems are important to sites that are not dating site related. Many of the members of my site don't use PayPal and don't like the idea of going through PayPal even if I tell them they can use a credit or debit card. So having non-paypal gateways built into the system will be beneficial to many types of sites that need a good payment system. However, HL you are correct on there being too much dating emphasis when installing Dolphin. I don't run a dating site and so I had to spend time removing the dating aspects. The join form should not come pre-filled with dating related fields; provide just enough for a good starting point for building a join form. My site does not need such things as match making, and other dating related items. We should be presented with the core framework for building any type of site and not worry about having to strip out things. Geeks, making the world a better place |
I have so many modules installed from third party vendors, a 7.15 module might be a nightmare for me... LOL If Boonex had done it right the firs time... :) P. Peer L. Plaut Executive Director, Single Booklovers Connecting Bookworms Since 1970 |

Lets face it, there's always going to be those that think they have the next best Facebook clone or dating site and Boonex does cater to them. I also had to remove the dating stuff but it really wasn't that difficult. There are much better things to bitch about than that. LIKE PAYPAL! I also hate PayPal and avoid it like the plague. I've even gone so far as to get a separate credit card just for using PayPal. When I use it, I go online, shift just enough money over to make the purchase then make sure it's zero'd after the fact. http://towtalk.net ... Hosted by Zarconia.net! |
