will this break my site?

i've decided that because my site is not a dating or adult site that i really don't need to have members enter a date of birth or sex, so my question is, will everything still function correctly if i went ahead and took these options out of the join form (edit profile etc), i've got a funny feeling i saw a post a while ago where someone was having trouble with their mass mailer and it was thought that it was because members hadn't completed their date of birth, if this is the only problem then that's great because i will probably use a 3rd party mass mail system any way, does any body know of any other problems that could happen because a member has no date of birth or sex?

Hi,

I had a boonex install once with date of birth removed from fields builder and the site worked well.

*** Be sure to remove date of birth everywhere : join form · edit profile  · view profile · search profiles

For the mass mailer I don't know because I created my own php script to send emails with swift swiftmailer.

You really should keep that as a required field.  It's a good idea to limit membership to people over 13 years old... or even 18.

My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees.

hi HL, that's exactly how i've had it set up, the main reason i was thinking of not using it was so that people could register as a business, i suppose i was trying to save myself $150 but it looks like it would just be best to buy AntonLV's profile splitter, then i could keep the date of birth (& sex) for people and not have them on the join form for business's (if the mod works that way, i haven't fully read what it can do yet, better go look now)

I have worked with the Profile Splitter Module.  It allows one to have different profile types and present a different join form to each.  You might also want to look at the companion module, Membership splitters.  The Membership splitter allows you to have different memberships for the different Profiles.

Geeks, making the world a better place
