For the same setting in your photo (which I read to be asking for a default *name*... not the privacy setup) I changed "Hidden" to be "My Album".  As far as I know, privacy settings for each photo album are set when the album is created or edited... in the 'Info" section... with the "Allow viewing album" drop-down list.

Good image, now I understand... it's a very good question.  I would also like to know now to set privacy defaults on add-content forms... in some case allow members to change it... and in other cases both set and hide it.

Did you ever find a solution for this?  I'm having the same problem.

I would like to know the same...

What I did for such cases is find the database table that relates to the information, i.e. a new 'row' of the table is created for each instance of the content form being created, then I set the table-column default to be the setting I want it to be.  The default is set in the Structure settings for the table.

BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU CHANGE THE DATABASE... never, never change anything unless you have a high degree of certainty the change will work... and always, always backup the database before making structural changes to it.

That said, I have found, for some unknown reason, that my install-configuration of Firefox does not consistently adhere to such 'default' db settings... yet all other browser appear to work as expected.

Finally... I'm not a db expert.  If you're unsure of how to *try* the above idea, then I suggest you find a trustworthy db expert to make the changes for you.

Hey Epaulo,

Thanks for the reply!

I'm having a problem with the default album created by boonex. The permissions of this album get set to "Me Only" by default. Take a look at the image that was attached by Jeko. He is also referencing the default album created by boonex.

I'm trying to make the default album (created by boonex) to be created with "Public" view permissions.

Any ideas?

Mine appears to be 'default' set to Public... not sure why my site does that and your's doesn't.  Then again I've lost track of some of the db changes I've made while tweaking my current Dolphin project.  Have you looked at the default privacy settings in the sys_privacy_defaults table?

http://pkforum.dolphinhelp.com

What is the name of your default album? I renamed mine from the admin section. It used to be called "Hidden". Is that the album that you're saying is set to "Public"?

Strange that yours works....maybe you made a change.

Let me ask you something. I know you're using some of the 3rd party mods. I think your using the club mod...right? When a listing is submitted, does the image also get added to this default album?

Have you looked at the default privacy settings in the sys_privacy_defaults table

My table is empty?

Quote · 29 May 2012

Yes, we're talking about the default album... I changed the default name to "{nickname}'s photos".

I had the club mod installed but not any more (an idea I had didn't work as I'd hoped)... so I can't answer any 'club-related' questions.

If your sys_privacy_table is empty then I'd guess you've never changed and saved the settings on the /member_privacy.php page

Matto,

I just tested this and the "default" albums on my test site are set to "3" Public automatically also.. it's a basic Dolphin install with no code changes or add-ons.

If you go into admin under "settings" and then "privacy" is there a check mark beside "Enable Default Group"?

Thanks again for responding! :)

an idea I had didn't work as I'd hoped

Sorry to hear that.

Actually, there's two albums created by the system.

The default one that is there when your 1st register:

Yes, we're talking about the default album... I changed the default name to "{nickname}'s photos".

The name of this one is changed in admin > modules > photos > settings

This one is fine, and the permissions are set to Public.

In fact, I just tested a wall photo and an album was created for this without any problems. Permissions are public.

Here is the problem child!

Then there is another album that is created called "Hidden". The name of this one can be changed in:

admin > settings > advanced settings > variables

This is the album that is getting set to permissions "Me Only.

Any ideas about where I can change the permissions for this one? I don't even know what this album is used for? I know that when a user submits a club listing, the photos are copied to this album...and it's creating serious confusion!

Thanks again for trying to help!

Hey mscott,

If you go into admin under "settings" and then "privacy" is there a check mark beside "Enable Default Group"?

Here is what I have:

Enable 'Default' group: checked

Enable 'Me Only' group: checked

Enable 'Public' group: checked

Enable 'Members' group: checked

Enable 'Friends' group: checked

Enable 'Faves' group: not checked

Enable 'Contacts' group: not checked

My previous post might give a better example of what is happening. Any ideas? This is very frustrating as it's causing blue padlocks to appear all over the photos section. I've already looked at ways of removing the blue padlocks, but that's another issue in itself! lol

Quote · 29 May 2012

The more I look at this, the more I'm thinking this might be a 3rd party mod issue. However, I've already asked him about it in the past and he said that it can't be changed because of the way dolphin was designed??

Maybe if I know the answer to these questions, I'll know where this issue is coming from:

- When and why is the "Hidden" album created?

- I know the purpose of the hidden album, and that's probably why it's being set to me only.

http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/ticket/1024

Basically, all of the photos uploaded with these 3rd party mods that I purchased are being copied to this "Hidden" album....and causing confusion.

I figured this out... it's not Firefox (which I use for the site admin login)... it's that the Privacy Settings that I've setup for the site Admin account... they're overriding my custom database default settings.  Since I've not setup any Privacy Settings for my other test accounts, the customized default db settings work as expected.

Of course, it makes sense that an account's Privacy Settings (if setup) will override the database default settings.  Unfortunately there are certain Event settings (in modzzz's Ultimate Events) that are not offered as options in the Privacy Settings for Events... such as "Admins Only" and "Participants".

Haha, yeah everyone's fed up with the blue pad locks.

Ok, try this.. go into phpmyadmin. Then click "structure" beside "sys_albums" ... once you're on the structure screen make sure the default for "AllowAlbumView" is "3".

Yeah...who ever designed that part must have been smoking some serious something at the time!!

Yup..I think I found another post you made and did this yesterday ---- works great! In fact, I'm going to bold this part, because this is the fix for anyone else looking! It's not going to fix my problem, but might help someone else. Smile

I changed the name of the default album from "Hidden" to something else, so, it did not occurr to me until now.

But, I think I've narrowed down the problem and it has to do with the "Hidden" album. It makes sense that a "Hidden" album has permissions to "Me Only". I'm not sure why/when or where else it's used for the system. But, I know that the photos with these other mods are being copied to that album.

I just sent a message, over to him....I'm going to wait for the reply!

Not to long (I'd put it on the "fix later" list)... but it was your post that got me looking at privacy issues and I'm glad I found out what was happening.  I think it's important to control (pre-set and hide) the defaults for some add-form privacy settings.

The photo album called by default ( Hidden ) on dolphin 7.09 is set to my only and yes, this can cause confusion, on the next version Dolphin 7.1 will be hiding completely so that nobody can see this images and not get confused.. even the owner of the album can not see this album, will be invisible to all.. photos will be managed by the various modules such as groups, events etc... http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/ticket/2783

Can you provide exact code updates for this part only? I've had alot of modifications done, and unfortunately upgrading is not an option.

That's great...Mille grazie!

So, just so I understand this correctly.... this update essentially hides the "hidden" album?

Thanks for the offer! I might take you up on that. :)

I'm wondering how this will effect the 3rd party mods I'm running? Currently, any media uploaded using these mods goes directly into this hidden album.

I've emailed the author about sending the media to another album upon upload.... but no word yet.

Quote · 29 May 2012

All media of 3rd party mods that goes directly into this hidden album are managed by the same modules and is visible on the 3rd party mods this change not cause any problem with 3rd party mods, i have already tested this modification :)

Perfect! Thank you very much! :)

Quote · 30 May 2012

Well, this sort of halfway works! It hides the hidden album...so, that's a bonus! :)

The problem still remains that any media attached from the 3rd party mods, still gets sent to this "hidden" album. Which of course, it's still causing the padlock issues when browsing categories, and other areas. :(

I've emailed the author of the mods to ask if it's possible to send the media to the "Profile Photos" album (since that one is public view) instead of the "hidden" album, but have not received a response.

At this point, I'm not even sure if it's possible to send the media that's attached to these modules to the "Profile Photos" album?

i have already tested this modification :)

Giovanni, I'm curious...do your photos (from the 3rd party modules) show up in the categories as "private" and with a "padlock"?

Probably you are wrong to apply the changes .. I tested on my site and in the album photos posted by default, called "hidden" from the 3rd party modules are not displayed in the search for photos or album .. i do not see any album with the padlock, the only album that you see with the padlock is the other albums created by users and made private.. but not possible to see the default album called (hidden) after this change.. if you give me the link to your site with a private message and I can control .. If you want I can apply the changes as I said and so you will see that it works..

Hey Giovanni,

Thanks for helping with this!

i do not see any album with the padlock

Either do I ... so, the patch worked good for hiding the album! :)

the only album that you see with the padlock is the other albums created by users and made private

That is correct.

Maybe I should have been more clear in my previous post.

Which of course, it's still causing the padlock issues when browsing categories, and other areas.

I should have said:

Which of course, it's still causing the padlock issues with photos when browsing categories, search, and other areas.

When I browse photo categories on my site, it show's me individual photos and not albums. What I'm seeing is images with (padlocks) for these latest entries.

So, when you browse your photo categories, you see albums?

If you want I can apply the changes as I said and so you will see that it works..

I appreciate the offer! I'm certain is was done correctly as the albums are in fact hidden. However, the images are not hidden.  Please do check your site for what I mentioned... I think you'll see what I mean.

If you do not see the private "photos", (not albums) on your site then it might be helpful if you install it.

Quote · 1 Jun 2012

I think the best fix for this is back to the original question:

How to set the privacy of the "hidden" album that is created to "Public" instead of "Me Only"?

While the patch works great for hiding the album from view, it still does not fix the problem, because the photos are not hidden from view.

Any ideas?
