question about top menu/navigation menu

I added a list of Quick Links in Navigation Menu and It's only for Quick links but the problem is if i uncheck the "Member" checkbox, the quick links will disappear so how can i make the quick links visible without showing them on the top menu.  Any ideas?

Edit: Keep in mind that you have to check any top item first.  for example, If i want Avatar and Privacy Settings quick links, i have to check Dashboard first, then Avatar and Privacy Settings.  In result, you see all three. I don't want the dashboard quick link so i figure that I should make my own list but at the same time I don't want to show them on the top menu.  I hope this makes sense to you.

Maybe it's a bug... Hmmm

Speaking of Quick Links, it would be cool to add them to pages other than Account Home. Don't see how to create a new Block in Page Builder like creating a NEW ITEM on the Menu Builder though.

Have you run across it?

You could try this.

Find the menu item in the database table sys_menu_top and change the type from top to system and then clear the cache. See if that does what you are looking to do.

Actually that will work. It's still buggy but it's good enough for now. Thanks Deano! :)

This trick didn't seem to work for me. Did I miss something?

Did you clear your cache/ (except the .htaccess file), cache_public/ and tmp/ directories afterwards?

Yes, I did.

Perhaps I'm unclear about settings for the top/sub menu items and expected results.

Using the graphic above, are sys_top_menu values below correct?

Item            BQuickLink    Type
---------------------------------------
Quick Links   ??               system
Profile Info    1                custom
Avatar           1                custom
Mail              1                custom
My Friends     1                custom

If correct, should none of these items should display in navigation menu, and the lower four display as Quick Links?

Thanks

This worked well, but unfortunately icons don't appear with the new Quick Links (tried setting them in table sys_menu_top.icon & sys_menu_top.picture).

Quick Links without icons don't look too bad in Firefox (see attached), but in IE8, unsightly placeholders appear (see attached).

Any suggestions how to get icons to appear, or remove the placeholders in IE?

Thanks!
