Hello,
i am sick of the sites events being posted straight onto the timeline/outline. its making my site look like a great big wrold wide shopping catalog. I found the 'HIDE EVENT'S FROM OUTLINE/TIMELINE and have seen the things i can block such as sites, BUT i can't find a way to actually DO it. I can make the item blue, but there is no way to remove it or click it. Am I missing something here?

Yes, once it is "blue" [edit] hold the "ctrl button" to select more than one,
click on "Save."

Wow!! boonex really doesn't make it easy. How would we know that but anyway am having issues understanding how outline work even after uploading photos or videos they never seem to show up in outline any ideas |
it's easy... in admin => timeline you have two options timeline / outline.
click line in outline option to select and click save. then the next time people create events for selected module it doesn't show on outline!
for multiple lines to select use ctrl key when selecting lines that way you can block more then one modules to show in outline.
Other way to do it is to filter them out in php code. but do that only if you sure.

LOL, it's ridiculous. AND as far as I can tell, doesn't really work. How do you know you've successfully made the change? It's still listed in the drop down box AND I can only get it to work some of the time...
I mean, how can you tell it's changed? Where's the box to re add the features if you want? Also, it does NOT remove any existing posts to the timeline you are trying to remove.....
I suppose at some time, Boonex will offer a paid 'outline management' mod like they do with eveything else that doesn't actually work or requires a relationship with Einstein to figure out.

I believe if it remains Blue it is delisted and will not post to outline. To change it you must ctrl and click to make white again and save. Vunderba..... Challenge Yourself to be the Best...... Hosting from Zarconia.net |

No offense, but if that's the content on your site, then that's what your site is. Are you saying that what is posted to the outline is a false representation of the content on you site? How can that be?

The outline should have a "featured" option so people can decide what is shown on the homepage. A bad first impression can make a person never come back. I disabled this feature. |
Well crap.... I think I'll find my own one year old topic to reply to for no fckn reason. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |

Offense taken you frikkin bonehead. The regular forum never showed up in my outline. With the advent of the much better pkforum, the posts now show up. I have decided I don't want them there opting instead for the recent topics block. I went in to disable them and it makes no freakin sense, much like the bones in your head.
The idea that we need to leave them blue is ridiculous by it's very design, if in fact, that's what it does. Each time you open the page, that will change. Who designed the backend of this piece of crap anyway? What the hell were you thinking?

BTW, you frikkin bonehead, don't you also complain when someone does NOT search the forum to see if there's an open topic on a subject, opting instead to start another stupid thread about the same g_d da___d topic!!!? http://towtalk.net ... Hosted by Zarconia.net! |

OK... if you really must know... I was thinking if i put my ear up to your head, I would hear the ocean.

It's not like Boonex did something totally bizarre. It's a pretty common practice. Newt explained it all perfectly a year ago. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |

This is a common mistake by users and programmers, what is needed is common sense.
The topic was how to "choose" the outline events/updates.
Boonex does leave out the fact that the webmaster should hold down a key as you would in any other computer program, editor, or just about anything involved in multiple selections.
Either Sky was bored or just ignored the dates, but it is good this was brought up.
BTW, where is GG?

Ok, i've done this for my site. Outline filter for members. In the profile edit members can set default filter for home outline if they want. (default is show all) if it's on show all all events will be loaded.
Filter are the modules i think are wurth to be filtered...

Hey Newton, away most of the day yesterday.
It is a poor user interface to have setting options for the Outline/Timeline to be a multiple select box; and any of the other areas similar to the Outline/Timeline control. It should be changed to checkboxes. Check the box to include, uncheck the box to exclude. If I could, I would put a ticket in for it to be changed in one of the next version releases.

Now that I have calmed down, the point I was trying to make is this.
I have NEVER seen a program where you 'highlight' the setting you want to change and then save it expecting the highlighted text to remain highlighted. I have never saved a 'highlighted' piece of text anywhere before and it is NOT a natural movement. There should be two boxes, one for selected operations, and one for the operations that have been 'unselected'.

I still think checkboxes; and when you come back into the admin, it will read the current values and check the appropriate boxes so you know what the previous choices were. Yes, checkboxes may take up more room but I have never cared for multiple select boxes as it is not user intuitive on any interface. You have to put in a message to your users to hold down the control or options key for multiple selects; otherwise it may be confused with a regular select dropdown where you can only select one. Checkboxes, they should be checkboxes.

I think that the timeline/outline show or hide events should not be admin based at all. It's up to your members what they want to see or follow.
Maybe admins should have options to show or hide like an overrule... and yes it should be check boxes and not a list that you select or unselect. But for people who don't think out of the box... explain the working of the lists for now as info underneath the lists in admin section.

vBulletin does it, as well as many vBulletin extensions. I've seen this done all over the place for over ten years. This is the first time I've ever seen anyone get so flustered over it. It's a widely used, well documented technique.

Good point. The more control you can give your members over what they see is better. That was one of the nice things about a defunct social network that I use to be a part of; the member had great control over what they saw while using the site. I have talked about this several times with the spy notifications; no developer seems to want to handle it. Modzzz said he would at one time; an extension to his email notifications, but nothing came of it.

That is why i think that Dolphin is stuck in the year 2000 somewhere... Why wait on D8 for all the great features and new things Andrew B!!!

I think that D8, as much as possible, should be rolled into Dolphin 7. According to the Roadmap, Dolphin 8 is only 39% complete.
