how to add transgender option

There are a lot of transgender people and I want to create options for them on my site. For example, I am female looking for transgender, etc. I added the trans option to predefined values section of the settings in admin. Is that all I need to do for it to work properly? Thank you.

Hi,

It will not work correct. I tried that once. Only man/woman will show at browse.php BROWSE block and search won't work. I was told man/woman is hard-coded into dolphin so adding extra genders is useless. I don't know if they changed it in Dolphin 7.1.4.

For me it shows up in the Browse/Search but when I click on it in the Browse it takes me to a page that says "page not found" Anyone know any fix for this?

actually, I just changed some things and it appears to be working in 7.1.3. I have to test it further to make sure.

Does anyone have any information on this?  I am trying to add fields to the "profile type" when a new user signs up, but do not see where/how to do this.

This would be a very basic function, I would assume, as one customizes their site.

Any help would be appreciated - noob here.

Thanks!

I'm interested, I seen this done a while back on .9 site, trying to find it.

What I do for one site is this,

 Sex: Man

          SheMale/Woman

ManOfTeal.COM a Proud UNA site, six years running strong!

In the profile field builder let's say you want to add transwoman and transman to the lists of sex/gender for a person to choose from when joining the site.  Click on the sex item to bring up the edit box for that field.  Go to the advance tab.  You will see Possible Values with the word sex that is clickable.  Click on sex and it will bring up the box for you to add values to the list.  You can add entries and move them up and down in the list.

Now I don't know how this equates to searches on the site but I would think that if a member's sex is set to transwoman then you should be able to search for all members who has the sex/gender set to transwoman.

Excellent help!  Thanks everyone!

I performed the recommended actions, and they show up and propagate - except when you sign up.

Any ideas?

Just an added piece of info:

What I am talking about is the sign up page, under the heading "profile type"

It shows up everywhere else.

Thanks in advance!

So you are wanting profile types based on

Man

Woman

Transman

Transwoman

instead of the standard profile types of single and couples.

I would look at this module, not cheap but you are asking for such a feature that is not part of Dolphin.  There is a basic version but it does not have the search functions.

Well, I'm disappointed that you cannot easily do this in Dolphin script, but I do want to thank you for the link - looks like that's the way I'm going to have to go.

Thank you all for the help!!

I'm tired of this bullshit of buying a module to correct something that should be core!

I often wonder if Boonex is reluctant to take the concepts presented in the Market and incorporate them into the code.  I do know that some things were incorporated into the core that were presented in the Market in the past; or perhaps that was just coincidence.  I was under the impression that the Page Access Control module first appeared in the Market before appearing in Dolphin.

If Dolphin incorporates the concepts of a Market module into the core, then that module becomes obsolete which hurts the Market.  However, at the same time it does help the users of Dolphin.  I think Boonex is afraid they will drive away the developers that create the third party add-ons.

I tend to agree.  Dolphin touts the "highly customizable" aspect of the code....and it is fairly customizable, but it seems where it counts, it falls flat.

Are there other, better scripts?

There are other scripts although whether they are better or worst may be a matter of personal opinion.  You have tried Dolphin.  Before we finalised on Dolphin, I installed and tested several different platforms, including some that were out of development.  There are several different platforms including social plugins to joomla and wordpress; which is trying to turn one platform into something else.  The two main competitors, in my opinion now, is Oxwall and Elgg.  You can download both of those programmes and install them and play with them to see if they are better suited to your needs.

socialengine would be second to dolphin, although not quite as good out of the box in my opinion.

This is not the first time such question has been asked.  Go ahead and make a post in the tips and tricks section of the forum and list out what you did,   Then if others come in we can point them to that topic.

All, I stand corrected. I actually tried my Transgender Search. I returns a null even though I know I have two transgender folks our membership database.

This is a bug and should be fixed... :) If you can make a change to add something it should work all the way through and not be hard coded in a single location...

Any idea how we can report this as a bug?

I think Premium members can submit tickets; so maybe one of them will.
