Please help. my site is down becuase of it..

Quote · 16 Dec 2010

Not sure why your site would be down because RMS is not working (shouldn't be).. but hopefully someone who runs their own RMS server will jump in shortly to assist.

I managed to set the environment table JAVA_HOME to the jre in the RMS derectory... now for the fun part\

running start  give you a dos box and goes through a lot of stuff so it should be working right? not

running start_service it refuses to run and does not call wrapper...

This is on windows 7.. I'm going to go through the services and see if i can start it that way.

but someone must have had the same problem with start_service on windows

anyone have a fix for this?

setting up JAVA_HOME on windows

Once you have identified the JDK installation path:

  1. Right-click the My Computer icon on your desktop and select 'Properties'.
  2. Click the 'Advanced' tab.
  3. Click the 'Environment Variables' button.
  4. Under 'System Variables', click 'New'.
  5. Enter the variable name as JAVA_HOME.
  6. Enter the variable value as the installation path for the Java Development Kit.
  7. Click 'OK'.
  8. Click 'Apply Changes'.
  9. If you are running Confluence as a EAR/WAR rather than the Standalone, you may need to restart your application server.-------------

--------------------------------------------------------------

editing wrapper.config

C:\RMS\conf

#********************************************************************
# Java Application
wrapper.java.command=C:\RMS\jre\bin\java.exe

and it still refuses to start_services

tries 4 time then dies.. does anyone know the fix for this?

I really need help on this one.. as I bet a lot of other people will on windows and rms 7.0.4

ok. i check out services via aministration tools...

RMS service is listed there as automatic. but is GREAYED OUT (not the same color as the other services.)

I am using windows 7 64 bit.... there is probably a service conflict..

anyone know how to fix this or find a 64 bit windows 7 version of RMS? so i can get the services working?

Quote · 16 Dec 2010

There is a RMS (Media Server) for Windows here: http://www.boonex.com/dolphin/download/

Make sure you get the correct one for the version of Dolphin you are running. Grab the ffmpeg.exe for Windows also.

Have you tried right clicking the service and choosing 'Start Service'? Just curious :)

yes i did all that already. it just refuses to run the service. must be becuase it's 32 bit and my system is 64 bit.

hope there is a fix.

I even tried downloading the newest version of java and same thing.

star runs but start_service does not

Quote · 17 Dec 2010

Please make sure that you downloaded java machine for your OS, try 32bit java version if you are using 64bit version, even if you have 64bit hardware and OS. Make sure that you completely uninstalled previous version before installing new one.

Most probably that RMS is compiled using 32bit java, so you need 32bit java machine to run RMS.

Also make sure that java version is 1.6 at least.

sorry Alex that doesn't work????

I rebooted in safe mode...

ran the rms uninstall..

rebooted in safe mode and RMS was still isted in the services.

So figured i'ld over write it by installed 7.0.4

then reboot in normal mode after doing all the editing (see earlier posts)

then

I have downloaded and installed the laterest version of java

and set JAVE_HOME to it.

RMS still refuses to uninstall nor run.

I have checked all the propertie files and the access file they are ok.

I need what registry names to get rid of this old RMS completely so I can install the new one.

Or my site is shot I have to revert to dolphin 7.0.3

It looks like it is a problem with running RMS for windows as service, ticket is created:

http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/ticket/2344

for now you can run RMS as program, it is working in this mode

it does run as a service but your ininstaller doesn't get rid of the old one.

I need the regedit names associated with RMS service so I can manually get rid of it and install 7.0.4

is this too much to ask?

rms 7.0.4 won't even run unless this is done

Quote · 24 Dec 2010

There is Uninstall.bat script to remove service automatically, so just run it to remove RMS service.

Try this version of RMS for windows:

http://www.boonex.com/RMS-WIN-v.7.0.4.1.exe

This is temporary solution to run MediaServer for windows. It is old red5 0.8, but with updated apps, to work with Dolphin 7.0.4

Let me know if you run it without any problems, so I can temporary replace non working version with this one.

Hi AT and RB,

I have a test version of Dolphin 7.0.4 that I am running on a Windows XP machine which is a mirror image of my production site which is running on a Unix server.I am not using RMS on my production Dolphin 7.0.4

I loaded RMS for 7.0.4 onto my XP machine just to see if I could get it working. There were 3 warning messages and one deprecated message but it loaded up OK.

I tried on 3 different Windows machines ie XP, Vista and Windows 7 all with the same results. They all loaded with the same messages.

They all also gave me the same message when I tried to connect to the RMS server that the connection was being closed because of a long handshake.

Today I downloaded the version RMS 7.0.4.1 for the previous version of red5 and loaded it on winodws 7 32 bit . No error or warn messages but the same long handshake message. All property files have been changed and ports 1935 and 5080 are open.I use internal ip's and have tried with the external ip also

The attachment shows the messages from RMS loading 7.0.4.1 and the long handshake message at the end

There is another thread with the same long handshake problem but with no resolution

Thanks in advance for any help

I set up RMS 7.0.4 according to the instructions set forth in the RMS Installation Guide in the Dolphin Docs. It is set up on a Windows 2008 R2 64-bit system running Dolphin 7.0.4 on IIS 7.5 everything works fine except RMS this is what keeps being written to the rms log within the RMS install location on the C drive -

STATUS | wrapper  | 2011/01/07 19:57:00 | Starting the RMS service...
ERROR  | wrapper  | 2011/01/07 19:57:00 | Unable to start the service - The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. (0x41d)

The service doesn't start.

That error log keeps climbing so I'm going to uninstall it now and try RMS 7.0.4.1

Quote · 8 Jan 2011

I had the same issue like roaringbizzz where the RMS Service wouldn't start on windows, I was able to correct that as follows:

If you've made any edits to the Registry in regard to RMS delete them

To delete the original RMS service Installed from the previous install use the command line sc utility like this -

sc delete Red5

Red5 is the Service Name of the RMS service

I backed up the logs from my previous installs for comparison purposes

Double click on Uninstall.bat to stop any running processes, then Double click on Uninstall.exe to uninstall that install of RMS

I previously downloaded the RMS 7.0.4.1 version mentioned in this thread, so now double click it to install that version

The install is located in C:\RMS not C:\Program Files\RMS or C:\Program Files (x86)\RMS on 64-bit machines, so in the wrapper.conf file located in the conf directory of the RMS install directory open it up in Notepad and edit the

# Java Application
wrapper.java.command=C:\Program Files (x86)\..\RMS\jre\bin\java.exe OR wrapper.java.command=C:\Program Files\..\RMS\jre\bin\java.exe

directive to be

# Java Application
wrapper.java.command=C:\RMS\jre\bin\java.exe

now proceed with the rest of the RMS install Guide and you'll get to part asking you to double click the start.exe file in the RMS install directory. That will launch RMS successfully and you'll see the various INFO text written to the console window which is also in the log files.

The part that still gives errors is when you test the RMS on your server with the Boonex Remote Tester, doing so results in the long hand shake error previously mentioned and the RMS shutting down. The entries in the error log are thus:

INFO   | jvm 1    | 2011/01/07 20:30:10 | [WARN] [Red5_Scheduler_Worker-2] org.red5.server.net.rtmp.RTMPConnection - Closing RTMPMinaConnection from {my home IP Address} : 63072 to {my server IP Address} (in: 3381 out 3177 ), with id 22758546 due to long handshake
INFO   | jvm 1    | 2011/01/07 20:30:40 | [WARN] [Red5_Scheduler_Worker-3] org.red5.server.net.rtmp.RTMPConnection - Closing RTMPMinaConnection from {my home IP Address} : 63075 to {my server IP Address} (in: 3389 out 3177 ), with id 18369103 due to long handshake

This was the result of using the Testing tool to check my IP Address with the chat URL set. There are a few other errors in the log as well, they are:

INFO   | jvm 1    | 2011/01/07 20:22:59 | [INFO] [WrapperSimpleAppMain] org.red5.server.tomcat.TomcatLoader - RTMPT server bean was not found
INFO   | jvm 1    | 2011/01/07 20:22:59 | [INFO] [WrapperSimpleAppMain] org.red5.server.tomcat.TomcatLoader - RTMPS server bean was not found

According to the RMS Install Guide the web apps to place the IP address in are board, chat, im, and video and that global is not for this version but for version 3.5, but there are two other options in that hierarchy of livecam and phone that could accept these values as well, why shouldn't these be changed and does that affect anything?

So going to the Services section of the Control Panel and clicking on Start for the RMS service works now, also make sure that the JAVA_HOME Environment variable is set to the jre folder of the RMS install directory, this was mentioned before. You don't need to install Java on your machine as the RMS install includes all of the executable files that it needs from Java within it's own directory, that should be made clear. Keeping all of the Java calls within this directory is a good thing to defend against conflicts.

The Media server seems to be working OK now since in my case there isn't any remote connection it only connects to the site running on the same dedicated server, so no shut down do to long hand shake since there is no remoting going on.

When I try to record a video with my web cam in the videos Add section I get a error saying "Error processing file"

This is what is listed in the logs.

This is known issue: http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/ticket/2298

Most probably video recording stop working after updating Media Server, it looks like Media Server codecs were changed.

We will try to fix it in 7.0.5, but most probably it will be fixed in future versions

OK thank you AlexT, this also creates an issue with Video Uploads and the ffmpeg.exe not converting the file uploaded to I assume flv. I had issues with the cron.php executing and after resolving that I had an issue with flv files being uploaded. I figured it was a codec issue and replaced teh version of ffmpeg.exe in the globals/app folderwith one that had the latest binaries. So at that point the uploads worked and the cron worked so files were no longer stuck in "Processing" but after the cron job I got a Video Processing failure anyway. I still felt it was a codec issue and thought the new ffmpeg.exe file would take care of that, but I guess it has to do with codecs in the RMS so I'll wait on that.

thanks
