friends list in profile

I would like to make my friends list in profile private. is this possible.

Each member can use the key on the block to make the friends list visible to members, or just them.  If you wish to do this site wide, then you can use a sql query to set the privacy of the block site wide to just "Me Only"; not sure the exact table or query to use at this time; just reporting that yes, it can be done.

why do some profile maps zoom in on the city automatically

but some don't ?

I have the key on my site.  The key will be in the header.  So if you changed the design box for friends to one without a header, you won't see the key.

As for maps, we don't have that on our site; our members don't want others being able to see to the city level where they are located.
