another convo about Matchmaking

so I've read through the forums but still have a few questions about how exactly to set up the matching feature so it works the best way possible for our new site and any advice is much appreciated.

1- I've used the pedit page to create a long form Questionnaire for use for matchmaking

2- The answers are select, multi select and text

3- I want people to find the best possible matches based on entered search criteria, even if the matches are not 100% (meaning they may match some answers but not others)

4- I have installed Anton's Advanced Search mod so all select and multi-select answers have null (~Any~) fields.

5- 7.1.4

How should I set up the matching percentages to best accomplish the above?

The matchmaking system in dolphin sucks. I mean really sucks. I don't believe it is accurate. I think you just need to play with settings until the results are close to what you expect them to be.

 Its why I had to start this thread.  there doesn't seem to be any definitive answer out there but I figure maybe those here in a semi or official capacity, or at least some other users that have gotten it to work fairly well (if possible) might have some advice.

I'm unsure if ratios should be set high, low or somewhere in the middle to add up to ???

Again, any help from someone in the know would be awesome

As far as I know the only thing anyone has ever gotten it to do is spam their members. I would avoid it at all costs.

 except that its central to my site's function (had I known it was this crappy, I may have chosen a different cms than dolphin altogether)

here's my theory that I'll try today

set all matches at 10% with a total 10% overall match threshold, that way a search should theoretically show anyone who matches anything in the search results with those who match greater being displayed higher (not sure how this will work with the text fields).

I'll also turn off the notifications to avoid the spam.

I'll report later if this actually works as intended, but more direction from others in the interim is still most welcome.
