anonymous mode?

Is this for comments?  I activated it cleared cache but still not able to see the ability to comment anonymously.  I did however see one dolphin site that was able to comment anonymously.  Is there more than 1 setting?

Anonymous mode is not properly named in my opinion.

What is does when enabled is remove the Get Email action button from members profile so contact information cannot be retrieved.

When not enabled there is a Get Email action button on the profile. That also requires that the membership action of "get other members emails" be enabled for the membership for the button to work.

The button runs the script freemail.php which also seems to be able to retrieve contact info from the profile for Phone, address, homepage and ICQ number for which none of those fields actually exist in the database. So i don't really think this feature was ever completed.

But i does retrieved and send the email address.

The feature when listed in dolphin 7.0.9 was labeled Anonymous mode (no contact information): In dolphin 7.1 the words (no contact information): were removed. But that is all the feature is. It has nothing to do with comments.

As for the other site you saw that allowed anonymous comments. They must be running a custom mod. I do not know of such a option for comments.

So anonymous mode in 7.1.3 makes it so people can't share emails? Is that all it does? I checked it but I can't notice the difference. Please clear this up for me. Thanks.

Yes, that's all it does. It just takes away the "Get Email" button... which probably shouldn't be there in the first place. I know if I joined a website and someone could click a button and get my email address I probably wouldn't be happy about it.

Yes, that's all it does.

OK, this is now a new subject, I never have looked into this. Is that actually all it allows?

I have it enabled on test site just to see how much spam I could garner...

so much is still so vague even after three years.

I wonder if Bill Gates knows all the "shortcuts" WinOS offers.. lmao

Christoper, this is hind-site, I loved your 7.0.9 site you created...to me, you had reached the "real estate" state your site could reach here in FL, such a shame to see all your work go away. IMHO

It's one of those things they put in but never really said what it did (to my knowledge)... but yeah if you DON'T check it then that button shows up in "actions" so a member can go to another member's profile and click it. Then they will get a nice email from the site with the other members email address in it. If you DO check it then the button isn't there.

If you don't check it then I guess it would be a good idea to put some sort of warning on the join page that other members can get your email address. I just delete the freemail.php file completely.
