Why does my web page scroll left & right (width) and how to fix?

Hello Dolphins,

I noticed that my web page scrolls side to side --width scroll -- and I want to avoid that.

Anyone knows how to get rid of it?

Tnx

What on earth are you viewing your website with?

I just checked your site. Your pages are currently set for 998px which is dolphins default. That should display fine on all screen resolutions of 1024 and up as long as the browser is not minimized below that width.

In other words, both the browsers width and your screen resolution(width) must be greater than the 998px your website is set for.

I had no problems browsing your site. No horizontal scroll bars.

I use FF 90% of the time and its the only one that does this and its definitely higher than 998. Chrome and IE don't cause this.

I use FF also, and did not see it on your site, so..

I would look into other issues, such as your browser cache, browser addons or other things with the browser as i cannot see a problem viewing your site with my copy of FF

Ok cool! I'm glad to know that it has to do with my computer only. I'll check the things you suggested.

Thanks Dean.

Right-click on the icon you use to start Firefox and choose Properties.

Click the Compatibility tab.

Make sure that 'Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution' is not checked

I am not sure which site your referring to. You have several listed on your profile. But i checked one, and did see the problem.

Your i traced to a problem within the table end the end of your page that contains a banner ad, a link to vote under it and a host for web link under that. All three of those items appear to be stuffed into one table row allowing the browser to wrap them to the next line.

If i hide that table with firebug the problem goes away.

If you properly split those individual items into 3 separate table rows it will correct the problem. Poor html design of that lower section is the cause of your horizontal scroll bar. The browser just can't handle the way it's currently laid out.
