Do you mean GUI? Your server is probably headless. If you don't have a control panel I recommend installing webmin. I have reviewed many control panels and webmin is the one I use because it allows me to change configs, add a database, copy directories, work on vhosts etc without going into ssh and it has a very low footprint and gives me the total control I need. I am not a fan of java but the java based file manager in webmin is very well thought out and it keeps the permissions/owner:group intact when extracting a tarball (if the tar switches were properly set when creating the tarball). I have used ubuntu for a home server and it was cool. Using CentOs 6.5 now on production server. Heck - I have never seen my servers using a gui if that is what you are looking for - or would ssh work for you. Check out the different versions of linux and do some extensive researching. Try to find a distro that would fit your needs. caredesign.net |
ok so forget about the gui... anyway i think it will slow the server... for the server... my need is to run a Dolphin and RMS so i dont know wich linux is more stable and more easy to install requirement for RMS and dolphin |
Both Ubuntu LTS and CentOS are solid choices, although I tend to recommend CentOS. You won't be using VNC or a GUI to interact with a Linux server (unless you installed a GUI, which isn't a common thing to do on servers), but instead using SSH.
Feel free to PM me if you run into any issues installing RMS, or need some help. BoonEx Certified Host: Zarconia.net - Fully Supported Shared and Dedicated for Dolphin |
I recommend CentOS as well for the most stable platform. https://www.deanbassett.com |
