What if Boonex closes down?

If Boonex closes down -- goes out of business -- what would happen to all the dolphin sites? Since sites pings to Boonex for registration validation, what happens then? Can Dolphin sites continue operating? Or will they become non functional?

This really worries me, since I want to promote a site I recently did.

With so many companies closing down theses days, i think it is a legit concern.

What say you?

Well I wouldn't expect them to go out of business anytime soon. After all this is one of the cheaper businesses on there end. There is little overhead and expenses for them for this type of business. They create the software/script. All they need to do is pay a few employees for developement. Maybe they rent or lease a little office space. Rent or lease a few web servers, and register copyright/trade mark there goods. You really can't get much simpler than this and expenses and overhead or peanuts to many businesses.

There are very few scripts that are so actively developed and updated as this one. If you have cpanel with fantastico look at some of them auto-install scripts and what the last time they actually updated and put out a new version was. You will find many 2-4 years old now since the last major update/release.

When things start slowing, and you don't see new developement and updates then I might start to get a little concerned.

Within the last year or so this script has really improved with features that many others can't even come close to touching.

I read about others saying it sucks and they moved on, next thing I know they are right back here again because there so called script didn't have all the features and ideas that Dolphin does.

At any rate anything is possible. The economy sucks everywhere. But this one I am not even remotely concerned about going out of business or die'n any time soon.

nicely explained - I'm grateful for your valuable time in addressing this concern of mine.

My soul rests now. I will therefore continue to learn, use, and hopefully contribue as well.

This is the first forum I have run into where I really feel a very supportive vibe.

So i guess, Dolphin it is!

Onward!

We have seen successful banks go out of business of recent. This is a pionter that any business can fail. Boonex is a small business still growing, according to business statistics the risk of failing is still high. There is no guaranttee that if it goes out of business your business is protected. The product is good but you bear the risk.

Let me quote Boonex

" Boonex is all about uniting people,We want people to collaborate in reaching global and personal goals"

This is the other side of the spectrum, where banks and insurance CEO  (i.e. AIG) only wants to fill up their pocket

If Boonex goes out of business, but please please, not before Dolphin 8, it would be up to the community to ensure

its legacy

Hello all,

This is  really  a cause for concern.  But with Victors Answer this will not suffix since we have heard and seen big big corporations going down the drains in the last couple of years.

So i think Boonex it is high time to start to think about the licensing in a different way rather than connecting to your server so atleast in the worst case the product is alive and community support can keep it alive for years to come in the worst case Boonex goes out of business and is not anymore able to support to develop.

Adapting a good licensing and localized version of Dolphin would be a good idea instead of connecting to boonex server.  it also will ease out the load on boonex server.

I hope this will be taken as a positive note instead of a negative comment. As i support Boonex and dolphin whole heartedly and will be supporting the team as well with what ever i can .

Claudia
