What do you guys think of Dolphin "modules" that are just someone else's open source application in a iframe?
Here a $44 example: http://www.boonex.com/m/dolphin-seo-tools-complete-seo-toolkit-backlinks
Which is this free open source application in a iframe: http://www.seopanel.in/download/
I don't know about you guys, but I think 44 bucks is a little steep for putting someone else's free open source app in an iframe. I hate to bust anyone's bubble, but I'm going to give away a $44 coding secret. Put the code below in an html block on a Dolphin page:
<iframe src="path to seo panel installation"></iframe> Well... there's just a wee bit more parameters to add, but that will get you started. Let me know if you need any help... no charge.
My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
Don't forget the special offer. You save $35 bucks. Lol.
"* LIMITED SPECIAL OFFER - Buy this product now and get 5000 directories database & Social Bookmarker Plugin for free. Total Savings of over $35.00....."

Another great idea: <iframe src="<? print $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']?>"></iframe>

Then there's Prestashop:
The iframe "module": http://www.boonex.com/m/dolphin-presta-shop-ecommerce-store-for-dolphin
The free open source script: http://www.prestashop.com/en/home
Then there's: http://www.boonex.com/m/dolphin-phplist-email-marketer-send-mass-emails
The free open source script: http://demo.phplist.com/lists/
And: http://www.boonex.com/m/opencart-full-featured-ecommerce-store-for-dolph
Once again: http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route=download/download
The list goes on and on. Most of this "Providers" stuff is nothing more than a free open source script in an iframe. Dolphin Presta Shop - Ecommerce Store For Dolphin..... GMAFB..... there's no integration into Dolphin whatsoever.
I thought that market products were supposed to meet some sort of minimum standards, but this stuff reminds me of all those KMD/Buxton Iframe modules from a few years back. If somebody want's to try and sell stuff like this fine... just tell people what it is. The product description should make disclosures like: Dolphin Presta Shop - Ecommerce Store For Dolphin is the free opensource prestashop application iframed into a dolphin page. There is no integration into Dolphin whatsoever.
What makes this worse, is that Boonex is actually promoting this stuff, because that "Prestashop for Dolphin" is one of the first "products" listed in the latest mass emailing of the Boonex Digest. Presta shop for Dolphin my ass.

Well, here's the mod which is much cooler, it allows you to open your own search engine:
<iframe src="http://google.com"></iframe>
Or even your own FB!
<iframe src="http://facebook.com"></iframe>
Just cover the original logo with your own in <div> with higher z-index and grab billions! :)

I totally agree, even $5 for an iframed open source object is ridiculous. Especially considering a few different things. A - not everyone has a bunch of money to spend on modules, B - those iframed modules give true module developers a bad rep, C - There are true module developers out there who are willing to assist finding free workarounds, and even give away free modules.
I bought a module thinking it would be the greatest thing since sliced bread. Then installed it and was so frustrated - it was simply someone elses open source work placed in a frame. So, I ended up making a module myself that works better thn the one I bought. So I posted my module for free. I will admit - it was more af a "your mod was bs, so here's a better one for free - take that" attitude I had.
Hey HL - would it be appropriate to start a thread called "Free modules". I know you have a bunch that you have put together, and there may be others who can not afford the Prme account who have some modules they want to offer at no cost. I just think having one place for those would be good, as opposed to having to search for them.

Yeah... as long as it just links to the individual free module threads, or wherever they are listed. It wouldn't be a good idea to provide downloadable attachments in the "Free modules" thread because those downloads will likely be obsolete one day. I'd put stuff in the Market, but I have no intention of paying for a membership just to post free stuff.

These topics already exists. Best you can do it to create a topic with your stuff in tips and tricks.
EDIT: I can add your free stuff in the market if you like.
so much to do.... |
I am actually looking at purchasing the Prime in a few days - at most 2 weeks. But I know there was a time when I was frustrated that I could not offer a module without upgrading. It was part of the reason I did not worry about making any modules. I figure if I had those thoughts, there may be others feeling the same way - so that's why I brought it up. caredesign.net |
Thanks for the insight.
I'm premium but can't post anything in market. Not a developer or programmer. No idea what I can sell to offset costs of deds and purchased modules.
Kind of a waste.
