Web Hosting

Will appreciate if you would advise a web host with minimum cost and at maximum benefit, including the transfer and upgrade of my Dolphin 7.0.0. website. As I am at a lost in making decision, hosts as usual deploy so many words, but in reality offers minimum for the unsuspected newbie.

Here we go again!... Wink

Ive asked before about fastest/best hosting and seems to be that lots of people have different experiences with the same hosts!

I had a shared account with Host For Web at first, did the job while my site was still in development (ongoing thing with Dolphin!)

Now Ive just gone for a dedicated server still with Host For Web. Yet to see how it performs as only just ordered it and still being set up!

Customer service has always been good with them though, and the sites have always been stable, even on shared hosting.

Minimum cost though is a sticky one... depends what you want to do with your site.

If its going to grow and have things like video playing on that is uploaded on the server (not embeded) then you will need to pay for the results, same with video chat etc...

If you think you will only have a small site then cheap is okay! If you have ambition to grow then you will have to pay for a server.

I have not had one single problem with Arvixe. Video processing is super fast and always functions.

Running four sites, all with different modules and templates.

I use two shared accounts and one VPS server..

The "tools" provided are the best I have found, and support has always answered the question.

When the "cache" features were added to Dolphin recently, I simply submitted one ticket and the next day they provided memcache server address to use for my sites.

I have read of others having some problems, like high CPU loads and such. This will happen on a shared host @$5 bucks a month.

That's when a VPS server is needed. This all depends what type of community your creating and the modules used.

But most important like Magnussoft states, read all you can about the host's you find. There are many differences.

Thank you friends for your comments, however I am still at the starting point. I guess I asked an open ended question.

Around here, when you ask a question like this, you are more than likely going to get alot of members who will reply promoting their current web hosting and possibly give negative feedback with any other host available.

The best thing to do is look at http://www.boonex.com/hosting/

Read the comments and reviews of the different hosting companies

Email the hosting company to verify they support all requirements of Dolphin http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/wiki/DolTech

Make your own final decision based upon these and your financial capabilities. But remember, when paying extreme low monthly rates, you may not get the performance you are looking for.

Nothing to see here
