Videos being squashed after upload?

So odd thing is happening over on our site. When we upload a normal video, it processes it and all is good. However when a vertical (smartphone/mobile) video is uploaded, the video is getting squished. Is there a solution to get the converter to not change the aspect ratio of the source?

Yes, people don't know how to take videos; tell them to rotate the freaking telephone when they take a video.  Then again, you can not fix stupid.

I wonder how many of these people have their widescreen televisions standing vertically?

I am gonna have a 23" monitor standing vertically, does that qualify?

Actually, no, portrait mode for monitors; there was actually one that you could rotate and it would automatically switch modes for you, makes sense in the publishing industry since printed matter is usually done on vertically oriented paper; and web pages are vertical as well so having a taller viewpoint for working on web pages can be useful.  It makes sense in the publishing industry to have a vertical/portrait mode monitor.

Video format is well established and most have been exposed to it from early on.  Therefore, they should have more sense than to shoot videos in a non-standard format.
