Useful Server setup tips - Dedicated Servers

Hi Guys

I hope you find this information useful. On this release I read through all the server upgrade requirements and was worried because the guys that host my dedicated server aren't the most helpful in the world with out any greens flashing in front of them. well after searching for a while on the net I got all the info together configured my server ... omg it is pretty simple.

Just one hint you need to follow these steps exactly the same fashion as I did.

If you don't have FastCGI installed:

This is done via easy apache Enabling fast CGI is something which you can do via cPanel though, via easy apache.

You can enable fastCGI as an option, and then re-compile (Build) Apache. The option to do this is in the '6. Exhaustive Options List' within the EasyApache section (you can find this in the 'Software' menu in Cpanel).

Don't have ImageMagic installed CHECK IF ITS INSTALLED FIRST VIA SSH Putty:

from root ssh

/scripts/checkimagemagick

INSTALLATION

/scripts/installimagemagick

Installation will take a couple minutes as it will install other packages needed by ImageMagick. After the installation, check that it is installed again and it should state the version.

/usr/bin/convert --version

It will give you something like: Version: ImageMagick 6.4.8, etc

Now install Imagick Go to WHM -> Software -> Module Installers -> PHP Pecl (manage). On the box below “Install a PHP Pecl” enter “imagick” and click “Install Now” button – that’s all. Restart Apache.

eAccelerator is an extra module on cpanel it just needs to be installed Install via EasyApache (you will find it in the same page as fastcgi under modules)

I hope this helps someone.
