The black squares are commonly due to Dolphin's configuration for capturing thumbnails. It uses the first second or so for its source material, which means if the video's still black, that may be your result. It's also possible that this is due to your incompatible hosting provider, as we have discussed many times before.

Have you received any emails from the cron daemon? If not, try the suggestions in this topic: http://www.boonex.com/unity/forums/topic/Troubleshooting-Crons-Videos-Migrations-RMS.htm. As for your cron jobs continuously changing from your configured time to every half-hour or so, this is probably due to your hosting provider placing a restriction on when a cron job can run.

I recall your hosting provider (HostGator) also doesn't allow the execution of files, such as ffmpeg.exe. If you can, confirm with your hosting provider if you can or cannot execute these files.

Edit: Your hosting provider has set this restriction on the runtime of cron jobs because you are on a shared server, which is occupied by others (think of the "good neighbor" policy). They do not want people going overboard with continuous processes, which could cause problems for the server and other customers. It's not your right to have your cron job to whatever level you want, but the hosting provider's. It's their server, their rules, and you must comply with them.

how long are you waiting for the video to be processed? it can take a very long time to encode videos..

also if you don't want the thumbnails blank or black do this

taken from this topic http://www.boonex.com/unity/forums/#topic/thumbnail-image-of-video-for-albums.htm

Hi,

Please forgive me if this has been posted but I can't seem to find it anywhere.  When I load a video in the album it shows a black square instead of maybe a clip of what the video is.  Can anyone tell me how to take a photo snapshot of the video to show instead of the black square?

I know you use to could take a snapshot in the older versions of dolphin but i can't seem to figure it out in the latest version.

Thanks in advance for your help.

look for Line 259 (make a backup first)

/flash/modules/video/inc/functions.inc.php

function grabImages($sInputFile, $sOutputFile, $iSecond = 0, $bForse = false)

change to

function grabImages($sInputFile, $sOutputFile, $iSecond = 10, $bForse = false)

The issue may be that Dolphin 7 has its own cron 'program' (that is activated by the system cron).

Even tho the server runs the cron every 1 (or 5 or 24) min Dolphin runs videos every 5 min by default.

The 24 min thing is probably your hosting company tring to conserve resources.

I think the main issue with the system cron running every 24 min and the videos setup to run every 5 min the time 'slots' don't line up so the video job is never actually ran.

Try changing the video settings in the database from ' */5 * * * *' to ' * * * * *'

The above change would mean as far as Dolphin is concerned it will process video each min.

But the Dolphin cron doesn't run unless the system corn is ran. So videos will really be processed every 24 min.

See attached image for what the cron table looks like in the database.
