Two Nooby Member Management Questions

Hi,

I have a Blogs Module set up on my site. One of my members is doing article marketing posts. These blog posts are not featured or easily accessible to anyone else on the site unless someone searches that member then sees their private blog posts.

On the Admin side I can see every post they are making. I am given the options to Approve; Disapprove; or Delete.

The biggest problem is that it's messy on the admin side.

What action if any do I take with this member? Do I keep or delete these posts and why?

Thanks,

I would say keep them because its his journal of his affiliations... If only a few people see it, then its not really an issue.

Thanks Darren,

I was not sure if the pages this member is creating are spam pages or not. I mean, these pages are difficult to find on the site, but still they are pages on the site.

Do pages like this slow the site down or create any issues with site management? And, what do I do about the way it looks in the admin blog mod (see attached image)? How can I keep it looking clean?

Personally, I'd ban the member from the site.  It's spam, and no good can come of it.

And even if people have to search for it, there might be a way that Google will pick it up and add it to their search engine, and in the end your whole site may get excluded.

I can't see any reason why you'd want that content there.

Thanks Tac,

Yeah, I thought of that too. The articles are as funny as shit though. They're like this;

Training Your Dog.

...Dog training is important because NIKE SHOES LINK if you own a dog it's the only way to GUCCI PERFUME LINK control your animal in SEAN JOHN LINK public.

Hilarious!-or SPAMMER?- They are private posts. That's why I'm on the fence about it.

delete them and ban his account.

you let one keep his crap online and others will soon follow.

the quicker you deal with this kind of spam the less time spammers waste pooping on your site.

scottgerling, what I do is delete the member but keep the Blogs posted. With the Blogs still there, it does make it seem like there was some activity going on. As my site grows in members and postings, I will then delete this kind of garbage from my site.

I hope this helps in some way, Chris from Snatfu

I get the same in my blogs to and have banned china from my website through my cpanel. Delete them all. They tend to add just a few words that deal with what my site is about and throw in links to spamming as well.

i deleted and banned china via .htaccess and cpanel just to be sure they where no good what so ever i also found it best to have your users confirm there email before account creation and also only registerd users who confirm there email address can actually post this helps stem alot of it plus may seem like harmless spam but what if the next thing they do is start posting links to porn sites or illegal animal or crap stuff on there its not so much fun then stop it before it gets outta control and plus soon as users see that sort of crap even if they came accross it accidently then well ya may lose users because of it so for that reason alone spammers begone lol

Thanks to all.

Going with the wisdom of the crowd, I deleted the blogs and banned 4 members for posting a combined total of 60 spam articles.

Note: All 60 of the articles all appeared similar to one another in how they were written, like they were penned by the same person.

What pissed me off wasn't so much the "blogs" they posted, but that crap wound up 8 times as topics in my forum. Don't mess with my forum!

You'll be happy to know, I whipped out my big can o Black Flag, deleted all of it and banned them all.

Let's have a beer!

Thanks,

Scott
