The Block Called "Profile Photo Switcher"

Is that suppose to be seen by anyone on the profile page and also be able to be used by even a casual browser?  On my profile page I see it even when not logged in or as a casual browser would.  It allows the casual browser to change the profile picture.  That just can't be right is it?  How is it suppose to work?  I like that I see it and can change my profile picture with ease but I am just wondering if the changes that are made by the casual browser will also change my profile picture?

That should be on your "Account   site.com/member.php" page, so no, no one but you sees that.

You just click on the photo you want to show up on the "Profile   site.com/newton27" page.

@Newton:

Did you add it to the Account page because my installation of 7.1 does not show that block by default can be added to the Account page.  It was by default on the Profile page.  I agree that it does not make much sense to be on the profile page as it should be a member selection thing control from the Account page.

Of course the block view can be hidden using the privacy keys.

 I think the reason for the selector, those are photos the member set when they uploaded, some members may like and some may not, they have to option to remove any block the admin puts on their profile via the "golden key" lol

For me I added it to see what it was and it was on my profile page...if it is only on my account page then it makes sense just wondering why it is even an option for the profile if anyone can use it? Hmmm

You could try using Dean's Block Tools and copy it to the account page but on my installation, I see no photo switcher block for the account page.  It would make more sense to have this block on the account page.  It is quite useful for switching in a different profile photo.

Does this block select the profile photo that will be displayed as the profile photo?  It doesn't seem to work for me.

Yes, just checked on my profile and it switched the profile photo.  What some members do is they change the privacy of that block to "me only".  As I said, that block should really be a part of the account page and not displayed on the profile page as members visiting should not see it; they have no need to see it.

the photo switcher has nothing to do with changing  your default profile photo all it does it lets you browse photos (should be renamed to something else, switcher is confusing)

I decided to test this as well as I thought it was a convenient way for members to change their profile photo without having to go to the profile photo album and drag photos around to change the profile photo.  However, I was wrong; as stated, it is a profile photo viewer; it allows one to go through and see the photos in the default profile album.  Upon reloading the page, the number one photo in the profile album is the profile photo displayed.  Why not just add this function to the profile photo block, and do away with a separate block that shows the profile photo with a strip of photos.

 That would make sense.  As it is now it is difficult to select a new profile image.

some like the option to have it and some don't, at least we're not stuck with it

Has anyone figured this out by now?  There has to be some other useful & easier way to switch your profile pics.

OK, instead of reviving old posts, it would have been better to make a new one.  Someone actually posted some code that sets the profile photo other than the dragging and drop method.  I will see if I can find it.
