TLD choice

So, have an idea for a new site, found a domain that I feel is ok.... most first choices are sitting there with stupid price tags on them but no websites... :-((

Site will be a network, but also aiming at bringing together lots of orgs, clubs, associations within  a niche

So, do you go with .org or .net ...

Org v net

When TLDs were first created, the idea was that .org was for non-profit sites.  Of course today no one really follows the convention.  I would go with the .net if the .com is taken.  .com was originally for commercial but is used for everything today and the reason so many want it is because it is engrained to think .com.  However, as people get use to all the new TLDs, I think that won't be as big of a problem.  .biz is aimed at business sites now over .com so we will see how all these new TLDs will play out.

in our project, we actually purchased the .net, .com, .md, and .org of our main name. That way no one else can purchase them and confuse users.
