Subscribe on homepage

So now that I'm finished tweaking the bigger parts of my dolphin install, I keep noticing little things that don't come w/ a description.

My latest curiosity: wtf is up w/ the Subscribe button on the homepage? I can't find even the description of how this feature works. At first glance, I thought it was a "Subscribe to newsletter" button - with the newsletter being sent from the Mass Mailer function under Tools. But then there's this description: "Subscribe now for BoonEx newsletter to receive news, updates, photos of top rated members, feedback and tips to your e-mail." - which makes it sound more like the "Subscribe" feature for groups, events, media, store, etc. where the user receives emails for notifications for individual actions. Or is this just a bit of "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit" indicating "fill in your description here"? Does Dolphin automatically send something to the user who has subscribed, and if so, what?

i think and could be wrong, but you can test it if you have more than one email address. by default those who register (join) your site, are added to the list for mail blasts. then there are those who may not wish to join your site, but would like to have the news of what is going on at the site, highly unlikely, but that is the concept.

so no, dolphin doesnt necessarily send out anything, its the mass mails that are sent from the site owner i.e. newsletters and such, but it does need to be tested and documented. good question.

yes that text is lorem ipsum, it needs to be edited by the site owner.

The subscribe is for opt-in emails. You can send newsletters, contests, etc.. To subscribed members only. In your mass mailer you can choose who to send the emails to. Example: newsletter would be sent to subscribers. Updates would be sent to all members.

Um... this counts as one of those things that makes me think that the Dolphin designers are just effing w/ us. Why would you put "placeholder" text into the Subscribe description that misleadingly describes as working the SAME WAY that all of the other instances of Subscribe work throughout the site, if that is indeed not how it works??

LOL yes, I have adapted all of the language keys and settings to my own wording and my own site name, I had to pull the default wording from boonex.us.

here is the text for _SUBSCRIBE_TEXT (System)       Subscribe now for {0}  newsletter to receive news, updates, photos of top rated members, feedback and tips to your e-mail.

the {0} is where your site name is replaced just copy and paste the red writing then in admin/settings/  Languages Settings/manage keys type subscribe in to txt field then _SUBSCRIBE_TEXT (System) click edit paste red txt into String text for English language:box and if you didn't change the default language description fanny is bobs auntie :O)

I seemed to have confused the issue by mentioning language keys - I've got the language key part of it all sorted already. I'm just trying to figure out what the function of the Subscribe button on the homepage is.
