Stop Flooding in Chat

I have a regular issue where the chat room is easily flooded by users and stuck enter keys etc and its becoming a real pain !!!!

is there away I can control this or eliminate it ????

If you go into your Admin Panel>Modules>Flash Apps and click the + sign next to A/V Chat, Click Settings. Look for the Update Interval (sec) and change this value to what ever you want. remember it is in seconds.

this does not stop the issue for example white space being submitted numerious times per second !!

 is this occurring when using AV chat? have you tested with your RMS off?

ok the issue is happening with RMS ON and OFF I have added screen shot below !!  All this was created by holding finger on Enter Key for 1 - 2 seconds !!

It disturbes chatters and is a real pain......

how can I stop this !!  Obviously the chat has no flood control!!

You will be glad to know I have your solution to this!

Setting this to "off" will make the chatter have to manually press the send arrow.

there is no fix for this!.. i tried, i begged, i pleaded,, i emailed rayzz, i wanted this fixed so bad,, i also wanted the ignore feature to work right where, when you ignore someone you no longer see the text they type, i was told it would be fixed on the next update, it never happened!

i had to buy community chat

 can you see in the photo, if you un select "Use enter to send messages"

the room can no longer be "flooded" by holding down the enter key and Josh has described here.

 if you go to the demo I listed you will see it works, and I have the adsense block showing on the right of the chat box too!

if spammers decide to enter message after message say 2 times per sec if crashes the entire chat room and moderators are not able to stop the issue!

entire chat freezes etc

I have never seen a spammer in chat doing it..

when is your chat most active? I would like to see when it happens..

newtons solution does indeed work ... makes chat a little more effort from chatter point of view but is a great fix!

i can crash any chat in 3 seconds,, newton want me to come over yours and show ya?

there is no line limit in rayz flash chat,, which is something i always never wanted my chatters to know,, cause that means you can post 10 thousand smiles and crash the flash on anyone in the rooms browser

[edit] please try.. lol , then again that is why we hire or take on chat room moderators.. to kick those off.

The chat is buggy despite what people have said above and newtons chat is still floodable holding down the enter key. Will stick with chatroll.

 How easy is chatroll to intergrate into Dolphin?  Are you able to pull from the same database for usernames and stuff like that?  I am not interested in using Rays products for dolphin.  From what I read on everything I am not seeing very good posts.  Long wait times or no responses from him at all that I have seen users post.  Plus there is so many known bugs in the products and little to no support at all.  Probably because of the "D8" project =).

Please understand I know that those are only peoples comments that I have read.  Most programers respond back to the ones that are posted in Forums.  He is just probably busy working on everything else.  I personally have never worked with Ray in the 3 years total that I have messed with Dolphin.

 i have chatroll fully intergrated on my site http://www.thegettogether.net/ have it on the front page as a lobby chat,, i love it but it dont have cams so i have flashcoms as well .. far as rayz chat, just wait til someone paste and sends like 10 thousand smiles at one time and everyone in your chat has their flash crash and you will see why i hated that chat so much

there are two things in life i hate the most.

1st. Rayz flash modules.

2nd. Internet Explorer.

I agree with tussery and Prashank25 the ChatRoll is super easy to intergrate, its just getting the right code in the right place that took my effort and with these 2 people assisting it was a dream. On tussery's website the chatroll is running beautifully and was the reason I wanted to add it, plus the benefit of seeing there profiles pics in the chat made it more COOL :D

Just have to remember to add the code into the php block and then modify the design inc file and add the code for the profile pics then everything is sweet.

yes but rays chat still sucks, there is not character limit on what is sent as a message so people can paste a million ":bomb:" s and crash everyone in chats flash,, plus there is no ignore feature to ignore another users text!

did you happen to crash my chat yesterday ?   just asking!

this happened to my users in chat for a brief moment ....

I guess rayz would be happy to try and stop this  due to the pain this can cause site owners.

don't understand how the heck can Rayz be still charging for that mod.

I create a product, i put a bug inside, then i charge money for the fix.

 There are several features he just added to the market, it's the usual bait and switch routine most of the developers and modules creators use..

Do some research on it here.

 I see your point that maybe it should have been included anyway with chat install  .. however it's general upgrades I think that some people including myself have been happy to pay for ...

some people don't require these extra 'add-ons' and some people do

Also take a look at some of Rayz new mods for chat .... all very good and well worth the asking fees

Well, its not as if these are expensive additions. I will be purchasing and using soem of them I thin rayz products represent exellent value for money, I just wish chat in general was more stable. But I am sure that in time chat will be good on dolphin.

How nice, that after three years, Rayz has the time to kick out a paid mod for a serious flaw I called attention to three years ago.
