Here is the issue, many sites use it or do not ask 12 questions before you can become a member. They may ask you your email and send a link, that you click, then to a user name, password, confirm password, then you are a member. Only dating sites need DOB, whether you are "looking for", relationship status, etc. Now I know I can turn off most if not all the question except Captcha. Issue is that there is no after. Meaning if I want them to input DOB later, there is no options to prompt, same with headline, description, avatar. I would be okay with them becoming member with user name password and email and one human question to later prompt them every 15 minutes to add details to there profile. Until all fields are filled they will continue to receive pop ups to complete. Same with avatar and designing their profile pages.
This is only the start. Any form that needs to be filled out on the site. Like events, locations, photos, videos, items for sale, etc. are labor intensive with little website assistance. This is a real problem. I watched members trying to fill out the forms. They get about three questions and say " Forget this". Am I the only one experiencing this from a members point of view. I could be. Question is whats the limit. At what point does the member say, " I am not sharing this because it is just too difficult to input. Take for example: There is a Flea market I think it's the best. I would like to share the location and an event they are having, but the site is asking for location title & description, town, state, country, zipcode, picture, possible video, tags, website, ,contact name, address, telephone number, fax, possible file, possible extra photos, possible other videos. And I have not even started to put in the event. Finish with the event and then share it to the wall and like it on FB, Google Plus and Linkedin or Twitter. WHOA!!!! there went a hour of my day.....never again. I used location as an example, but it goes for everything to some degree. It's all about ease of use.
Different sites have different appeal. Example A dating site is giving a promise of meeting people that want a relationship or something like that. That desire makes them fill out as many fields as required. Same with Porn. Sex driven. You could have 101 fields and they still would fill them out. While a site that doesn't have that DRIVING SEX appeal needs to be more selective and make things much easier. So I still would want to pop up something new each question instead of letting members read through the whole list of what is required and not making the commitment to finish. At least then I would get one listing.
