I recommend you look into making use of the new anti-spam tools in Dolphin 7.0.4. The captcha in Dolphin is pretty basic, so don't expect it to prevent much.

Hmm, that would require 2 upgrades which I am not able to purchase at the time... and will not attempt to do myself.

However, I will keep this in mind for when Im able to do something.

What's is there to purchase?

There are tons of bug fixes between 7.0.2 and 7.0.4.  There is no excuse good enough NOT to upgrade.

My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees.

?? It doesn't cost anything to download the latest patches or version of Dolphin.  If your haven't upgraded to the latest version that already addresses your issue then you shouldn't be asking these questions in the forum.

@Snatfu: Your still running 7.0.2 right?

I have some 7.0.4 sites running and still have a problem with spam. The added tools to version 7.0.4 have stopped some blogs, but is still not stopping them from joining, that is not what it is intended to do. Captcha only keeps the bots away.

China is has been the top country, b4 7.0.4  I had previously blocked all of China, Pakistan, and a few other countries via the .htaccess file; that is what I had to do again.

then you shouldn't be asking these questions in the forum.

That is what the forums are for, asking questions.

His site is heavily modded and difficult to upgrade I'm sure.

Most people have edited files on their site to personalize it. When upgrades are done some of these files get replaced; causing sites to stop functioning, look like crap, and very unprofessional.

I understand why a lot do not upgrade, every single version has a new bug, look at the photo approval system used now in 7.0.4, there is NOT one, you have to set all photos to "auto approve" imagine the trouble that can cause...so  they say oh that will be 7.1  LOL

Ok, let's get one thing straight...

If I have a question, I am going to use the Forum to ask for help from other Dolphin user's. At the same time, Valerie and Spike are both trying to learn Dolphin just like I am. We are very few of the people that we know who have goals and motivation to do more than sit on our ass and waste our time. We have idea's for our site that we have not seen on any other BoonEx affiliated site yet. Therefore, we are going to work as hard as possible to make our site the best we can. If we are not able to use the Forums for help and support, then they should not exist and we should all use the Support section.

I do not appreciate some of the responses that some people in the Forums bring forth. However, I have made it clear to my team that we have to ignore those of you who want to be a smart ass are not willing to help.  If you do not have an answer or solution, simply do not post anything.

Moving on...

newton27, Yes... I am still running 7.0.2
Based on the information you provided, we will continue to run 7.0.2 and delete the Spam as we see them until we learn how to upgrade.

Bravo Snatfu - got my vote on that.  Sorry I can't help you though, I'm having issues of my own. :)

Try blocking someo of the domains e.g 123.com, 163.com etc that are causing the trouble. To block domain in 7.0.4 is easy, for 7.0.2 you can see this:

This post from one of the site members (DeeEmm) on their site talks about how to handle it as well - LINK

P.S: I am not affiliated to that site or to that member in anyways...I just stumbled upon that link few days back and based on your post, I thought of forwarding it to you incase it's of any help...

Cheers
