Space between loginnames

I got several meesages from users who want a loginname  like: mr bullet.  But they can't only with _ between.  Oke this was with 6.1 already a issue and it looks there is never a solution found for.

We have it here about version 7.0, 2
Someone know more about this??

There's a ticket for this that was moved to Dolphin 7.1. If you can't wait, you'll have to hire a developer.

Edit: Interesting.

If you would like to allow two names (words) with a space (for NickName) we need to do this:
-
goto admin panel, fields builder, join form, click nickname, advanced tab - find:

Code:
preg_match( '/^[a-zA-Z0-9_-]+$/', $arg0 ) and !file_exists( $dir['root'] . $arg0 ) );

-
Replace with:

Code:
return ( preg_match( '/^[ a-zA-Z0-9_-]+$/', $arg0 ) and !file_exists( $dir['root'] . $arg0 ) );

-
Be sure everything else including the ( before the preg_match stays the same. This will allow one or two word nicknames, with 0-9 and -.
-
Next, open .htaccess in dolphin root - find:

Code:
RewriteRule ^([A-Za-z0-9_-]+)$ profile.php?ID=$1 [QSA,L]

-
Add this line directly AFTER the above line:

Code:
RewriteRule ^([A-Za-z0-9_-]+) ([A-Za-z0-9_-]+)$ profile.php?ID=$1 $2 [QSA,L]

-
That will send the double worded nicks to the profile.php for friendlyurl support (mod_rewrite).
-
That's it.

Im glad I looked for this! I was going to ask the same thing. So let's take it a step further..

is it possible to allow different characters in names? Such as -

☆☆☆CupCake☆☆☆ or using ♥ and other characters.

Something tells me this will cause all sorts of problems.

Thanks for your help, but this code is standard into the join form, nickname in D 7.0.2  But this is not working!
So we have to wait for a another solution I think

By the way, i coul'd find this
Code:
RewriteRule ^([A-Za-z0-9_-]+)$ profile.php?ID=$1 [QSA,L]

int he htacces file.

It will actually be good for members. The more they can customize things, the more they will use the site.

Members may like it, but dolphin is designed to some extent to use search engine friendly urls. Nicknames with extra crap like that would require than dolphin revert to a system where members are referenced on the url with an id number like in the past instead of the modern method of using names as part of the url. Some characters are not valid as part of a url.

Inserting the following line in the .htaccess as per instructed in the original post breaks my website...

RewriteRule ^([A-Za-z0-9_-]+) ([A-Za-z0-9_-]+)$ profile.php?ID=$1 $2 [QSA,L]

Double check your work ,make sure it is exactly as instructed.  and clear your cache.

I am half way through this process...

Im not able to locate the .htaccess file

All I found was /public_html/design/.htaccess (this is on a subdomain, reason for the "design")

Within this file, there is not anything that reads

RewriteRule ^([A-Za-z0-9_-]+)$ profile.php?ID=$1 [QSA,L]

The one he posted is not the original one. Perhaps your taking it to literally.

This is the original line as supplied by boonex.

RewriteRule ^([^/]+)$ profile.php?ID=$1 [QSA,L]

In any case, there is only one line that contains the filename profile.php

You always set me straight Deano! Thanks

Now I have to figure out why my test site just crashed after applying the code! haha

I am trying to tweak the friendly URL support in the .htaccess file but it crashes my site when I use the advised string of code priovided here.

I imagine my string of code will need to be different as I have up to 4 word nicknames and I have added the . into the mix.

Mine looks like this in my advanced settings for Nicknames:

return ( preg_match('/^[a-zA-Z0-9_.-]{2,15}(| [a-zA-Z0-9_.-]{2,15})(| [a-zA-Z0-9_.-]{2,15})(| [a-zA-Z0-9_.-]{2,15})/i', $arg0) and !file_exists( $dir['root'] . $arg0 ) );

What would be the correct string for the .htaccess based on this?

Appreciate any help. :)

You need to make a lot of changes to support usernames with spaces, and none of those changes are in the main .htaccess file.

I might be missing something, but I've been using this method since day dot and have never had an issue with the multiple user names until now. 1 page on 1 mod from the market returns an error due to it, first time in a year an error has been highlighted. Oh sorry, the usernames in some browsers drop to a second line and off the page at the base of the simple messenger boxes instead of just trailing out on 1 line with ...

I'm not even sure if I will continue to use the mod, so it may not be an issue, was just trying to test the mod in full effect. Lacking that one page due to the error makes it difficult.

Depending on how you use Dolphin, you may never run into an issue.  I'm mostly referring to the problem with uploaders, but such changes have not been extensively tested, so there may be (and probably are) other issues.

Haven't seen one that works.  I think Prashank25 had a tutorial, but can't find it.  And even still, not sure if his had the same problems as the others.

There is a ticket for 8.0.  Best method I can think of is add a new field for display names and edit files to replace occurrences of the username field with that one.  Not sure how they'll go about it.
