Social Sharing Inconsistent- SUX

Perhaps it's just me?

I've attached some images so you can see where my frustrations are...

Newton has helped a lot with his directions on better Social Sharing for Dolphin....

I just can't understand how or why the default sharing with dolphin sux so bad....I mean, it seems just half-assed to me.

But I'm definitely open to a perspective change if I'm looking at things wrong.

Here's my main complaint- No matter what we share, there should always at the least be a thumbnail that appears at the site we share "something" to. This is hit and miss really with regard to the default sharing options I have with my Dolphin site.

BUT- 3rdParty Module Sharing seems to be a bit better....

EVO Wall Shares are a little better....

and VIDEO ZONE SHARING IS SUPERB!!!

Attached are images showing what I'm talking about.....

I would love it if somehow I could figure out how to make my entire site share the same way Video Zone does....

At least somehow I would like to be able to make it so there will always be an image available to share (Preferably of the content being shared)

The last image shows what it looks like at Facebook after posting/sharing from our EvoWall NewsFeed and YouTube Videos Zone).....(Most of the time, I don't bother sharing from the content view page)

I'm just curious if this stuff even matters to Boonex or if I'm just pissing into the wind?

Any plans for improvement here?

Yes it does suck.

The reason is for sharing to work properly the proper information such as thumbnail, title, ect has to exist in the headers of the page. The current dolphin modules do not add any of that information to the pages headers.

My head injections mod can be used to do that sort of thing by injecting sharing info into the pages. But it's kind of a pain in the neck as each page has to be done one at a time. Example is a test blog i did to test sharing. http://www.deanbassett.com/blogs/entry/Test-Blog-Title which shares a proper thumbnail, title and url.

I still agree that using "addthis" code in a banner is the best way to go, although it does not do a video thumbnail.

I agree with both of you guys....

I wan't sharing made easy on ALL Pages, and those solutions answers that for any site that doesn't already have a template with that built-in (Dynamic Sharing Via Header-Footer or wherever.)

There's really no problem with sharing blogs because blogs allow for a thumbnail to attached to the Blog....

Yeah, I guess my main annoyance is VIDEOS....

@Deano- So your head injections make it possible to easily inject a shareable image, but each individual page has to be injected after a member posts a video and I scrap a related thumbnail together for each page?

Is that correct?

If so- Yeah.....I'd never have time to chase after that.

Honestly, I don't know why, but this whole lame side of sharing seems kinda embarrassing to me.

Correct. That's why it's a pain to do.

When i have some time, i will see about developing a mod to make all of it easier.

So why can't we modify the files that generates the pages and add those bits?  Why do we need a mod to do it?  It would be nice to just be able to sit down and do some coding and have it.

Geeks, making the world a better place

Either way, it's a mod. If you want to sit down and do it and give it away for free then that's your choice. But this is not Linux. Dolphin has a market, i am here to sell the work i do. It's how i earn my living.

Adding the code to the header only works sort of. A good example is with the classified ads mod I use. Modzzz supposedly fixed it because it was only choosing 3 images even though there might be a dozen or more. The first time you open the ad and click the share button, it works fine, the second time, it goes back to only allowing a 3 image choice. You are right about all the others as well.

Ultimately Boonex needs to get off their collective arses and do a script wide fix for this entire problem. Mod developers also need to understand that if their mod has features that can be shared, they MUST work flawlessly or it detracts from all the other work and features of the mod. In some cases, that makes the mod unusable.
