Hi Guys!
Do you have any recommendation of any reliable mod that will allow me to offer shopping cart functionality to my members? I guess this is a good feature as my website is targeting entrepreneurs. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Sam

Search in the market for shop and store and you will see what is there. If you are wanting a full shopping cart system, there appears to only be one; the OpenCart module. I asked the vendor some time back about how his integration worked and he said that the site admin had to set up each shop for the members. Not a big deal since the members that want a shop can contact an admin and request one; plus it keeps a handle on who are opening shops. To get an idea about OpenCart; which is a open source application, go to http://www.opencart.com/ There are also some modules in the market that has improved upon the Dolphin shop module. It depends on what you are wanting to do. Geeks, making the world a better place |
There is an Open Cart mod that you can integrate into Dolphin on the market. The other option is to have a separate subdomain that is any cart you wish. Then you can Iframe those shops into your site. If you are planning on having your own store, then I would suggest to line up a provider or the product first. You may find that getting a wholesaler that direct ships is more difficult that you first thought. Setting up shop is like setting up a website, it is a lot of work that may not produce results. Matter of fact, there is a lot more frontend work. You may find that businesses do not have the time or the knowledge to keep up with online shops. They would rather just advertise some specials or coupons to drive walk in traffic. Here is a sample of what to expect in just inputting the product, not even getting into the setting up of the shop or design. Take professional pictures of the products on displays. Editing those pictures to make them optimized for the site and presentation. Downloading those pictures to the site, adding titles and descriptions, model numbers, vendor numbers, and inventory quantities for each product. Categorizing products and sorting them for optimal presentation to maximize margins. Adding one item to a site can take some time, not to mention the knowledge on how to navigate to do it. This can be very frustrating to business owners whose time is already pressing. Then the need to upkeep, for inventory quantities and out of stocks, price changes. I do not want to sound negative, just you need to know that one shop is a full time job at least, that most existing business owners will not continue to invest the time or effort to establish a web presents and promote SEO, not to mention set up the website design and all that entails. Would be much easier with a standardized inventory control system reporting back to the website when they make sales in the home store all is modified. Though, I have seen even the best systems not work appropriately. The counts go off and if you have loads of products then that is a whole other full time job. So, in effect, you maybe doing businesses a service if you just direct them to promote a web special, instead of the grandeur of having all their products listed for sale. Then they really only need to have a webpage, not a web store. Then it would be easier for them to upkeep with the changes to their specials. I think AntonLV just listed a Pages mod that each member can design to personalize blocks to their liking. Hope this provides insight. Vunderba..... Challenge Yourself to be the Best......
