Reloading the forum module's language file

I was updating/editing language files and somehow seemed to nuke the english profile.  When I restored the default language files the forum buttons now  all look like this:

[L[RECENT TOPICS]]

Did you click the recompile link in the forum header?

That worked.  It was just not part of the main menu.
