Reinstall forums without uninstalling groups?

Hi everyone,

Is it possible to reinstall the forums (uninstall & then reinstall) without having to uninstall groups?  When I try to uninstall the Forums, I get an error saying that a dependency requires that you remove Groups.  However, I've done a ton of mods to Groups and I'm afraid of losing my changes.

Anyone have any advice?
