Redirects; Guests, Splash, Public, and Sharing

We are considering limiting what a guest can view.  First we want to limit what a guess can see on the index page.  I can do that with the built in controls.  However, I am thinking that we might want to limit browsing through the site by direct URL.  I have seen the redirects for guests that keeps them on the index page.  I have also seen splash pages.  A nice thing about a splash page is that there is nothing of real value to see if someone does the "view source" thingy.  At the same time, I do want my members to be able to share public content outside of the site.  My concern is that in preventing what the guest viewer can see will prevent a member from sharing public content they create on the site.  Feedback is welcome here.

I am sort of looking for "best practice" sort of things.  I see Deano's guest redirect and other solutions but would like some feedback on actual operations.  I don't want to lock the site down to guest viewing per se, I want my members to be able to share public content.  I am just not sure I want guests walking around the site at will.  I know I can hide the navigational menu from guests and that is one thing I probably will do.  I don't want a completely walled site, I do want a few doors that guests can enter.

You can do this in the Control panel, and the HTML blocks there is a Guest and Member check box, just uncheck guest from each and the block dissapears for non logged in members, the same applies for any pages you dont want visible to certain profile types under " http://yourwebsite.com/modules/?r=pageac/admin/ " Page Access Control Module.

and obviously you know how restrict the menu visibility from the control panel.

a combination of the above will effectivley give you seperate views just like i have done on mine :)

Hope this helps.

All for one and one for all....ah sod it who am i kidding!

Chris, what about members sharing public content on your site?  Do you see any issues there?
