Recommend Block Facebook Like Issue

Hi All,

We have the Recommend Block showing on Group View and Event View pages
If I am not logged into Facebook, and click on the Facebook Like button - it asks me to log in. If I am already logged into Facebook. it does not.

Either way, when I click on the Like button - the numeral in the little box to the right increases by 1.

But nothing appears on my Facebook page.......

What could be the issue? Or should this be updated to Share rather than Like?

Cheers

Paul, do you have a facebook page for your site? Are you speaking about your personal page in facebook? Typically, like buttons are for Facebook pages for the site, once you get to 40 likes you can place a ad on Facebook for your site. If you are talking about a personal page on Facebook that would be a share button. Now , a like button may show on the wall of the person who clicks the like, but I have not seen it.

Hi Guys,

It is the Recommend Block. It has Facebook, Googlo+1, Twitter and Pintrest within it.

One of the Block available to add to the Groups and events view pages in the Pages builder.

If you click on Like - nothing happens, but the number in the little box to the side increases by 1

I would presume that the page would be passed to the users facebook wall etc...

Looking at the source of the page I see that it is using the iframe version of the Like button as follows.

That looks correct to me, showing the url of the event page and comparing that to the code given by facebook it looks correct. But it is not working...

<iframe src="//www.facebook.com/plugins/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.siteurl.com%2Fa%2Fm%2Fevents%2Fview%2FHamlet-Royal-Shakespeare-Theatre-Stratford&amp;send=false&amp;layout=button_count&amp;width=450&amp;show_faces=false&amp;action=like&amp;colorscheme=light&amp;font&amp;height=21&amp;locale=en_GB" style="border:none; overflow:hidden; width:100%; height:21px;" allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>

Could it be because the script is putting in the html encoding for the :// etc etc?

Your not understanding how the this particular "Like" button works.

This like will show on your page under "Likes"

Now you can have a different Like button, or the actual best one to use would be the social plugin "Send" button, you have the choice of posting to

  • Group
  • Friends Wall
  • Private Message to Friend [edit] or yourself
  • Your own wall

If you need more help understanding these plugins and features, https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/

p.s. I have found that if you use the "like/send" button with comments, the popup is clipped inside the "recommend" block/box.
