I am having an ever increasing problem with RMS chat disconnecting users. This has even happened to me. Its very random when, who and how many times in a session this happens. This only appears to affect one member at a time.
Personal I have found it disconnects then reconnects without loosing any previous text.
I'm hoping someone will know what this problem is and how to fix it.

It might help if you posted some info about your web hosting services, including RMS. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
Don't know what you mean there. What sort of info? |
Don't know what you mean there. What sort of info?
Oh... silly little things like:
Who is your hosting company
Is your site on a dedicated server?
Is your site on a shared server?
Is your site on a VPS?
Is your RMS on shared hosting? How many sites share the RMS?
Is your RMS on a dedicated server?
Does whoever provides your RMS have it bandwidth limited?
What is your RMS's connection speed to the internet? Is it throttled under any circumstances?

Firstly Houstonlively sincere apologies. I accidentally reported your last comment and don't know how to unreport it.
I am extremity sorry about that.
Now to the info you requested.
Who is your hosting company............HostUpon
Is your site on a dedicated server? .........No
Is your site on a shared server?..........Yes
Is your site on a VPS? ..........No
Is your RMS on shared hosting? How many sites share the RMS? ........The answer I received about this was "RMS is a dedicated server". My view of that is that is although RMS is a dedicated server it is still shared by other sites
Is your RMS on a dedicated server? See above
Does whoever provides your RMS have it bandwidth limited? ..... No
What is your RMS's connection speed to the internet? Is it throttled under any circumstances?........No
I have submitted a support ticket with them and they are now looking into it. How ever I still welcome any advice.
Regards
Graeme

It's also possible this is a problem on the users end where as there connection drops out for a split second... https://dolphin-techs.com - Skype: Dolphin Techs |

Odds are, all of those sites are sharing the same RMS. You should use something like domaintools.com to see how many sites are hosted on your sites server... that's probably how many also use the RMS. I wouldn't count on your hosting provide to be forthcoming with how many sites are using the same RMS. My guess would be too many.
You didn't say how many concurrent chat users you have when experiencing the problem.

Thanks for that link I will have a look.
As far as concurrent users it could be as few as three in the room. There seems to be no re-occurring event when this happens. It's totally random and intermittent as to when this happens.
I have discovered though today that I feel the problem is growing. I had a burst of several lines of text come through in one hit.
Cheers

This is what I first thought but it is happening to to many people so i feel i can eliminate that. Having said that I haven't dismissed it.........yet

Based on the information you provided, your on shared hosting. You do not have a dedicated and don't have your own RMS server. Your using your hosts RMS server which could have hundreds of people using it. Therefor there is really nothing you can do. Your host controls the RMS your using, so you will have to get them to find and fix the problem. https://www.deanbassett.com |

I have asked them to look into it and just received a reply.
"At this time we're not experiencing any kind of overload condition on the dedicated RMS server. That machine only has RMS, and that's all it does, so if there were a problem this end, it would be very easy to see.
I'm not sure there's much we can do on this end."
So, what do you guys think? Would it be unreasonable to expect them to be able to monitor my connection?
Cheers

If you like i can put you on one of my rms servers for a few days and see how it runs ... Just send me a PM with domain name. https://dolphin-techs.com - Skype: Dolphin Techs |
dolphin_jay made a offer you should take for a while. It will help determine if it is a RMS server issue.
I suppose it could be a issue between client on your site and the server. I am not sure how the connection is established, but the fact your on a shared could be a issue if your site must maintain a connection to the RMS. Again, i am not sure about that. I would think the flash app loaded into the users browser does all the work and your site has very little to do. But i suppose it could possibly be part of the problem. Shared is not really meant to handle any real load. https://www.deanbassett.com |
It sounds like the host is only checking the RMS server's load, and not the actual logs. The logs should tell why the user was disconnected, and if there's anything that can be done on their end (e.g., tweaking the timeout values). But it's been said, you're on a shared server and using shared RMS, and who knows how many other users are also connecting. If you want the best results for RMS, you really need your own instance on a VPS or dedicated server. BoonEx Certified Host: Zarconia.net - Fully Supported Shared and Dedicated for Dolphin |
Or get Rayzz "RMS Free" module. I have not had any problems with it..
