RMS woes

So i've gone through and gotten rms working, many times...

It works, but only when it wants to, and it never seems to work during reboot.

It seems that I have to actually re-start red5 repeatedly until it starts working. It is incredibly weird and I don't have the faintest idea what is causing it.

It will start up, and not display any kind of error, but will not function. I have to restart the process, wait 1-10 minutes and try again. When it works, it works. I can video chat to my hearts content.

"restart until it works", is not suitable for a live site, and it is certainly and issue I have to deal with or server reboots will become a very problematic task.

Any help here would be appreciated.

Do you have the start command in rc.local to load rms on reboot ?

Yes, it loads up during reboot.

It's just that, because I have to manually re-start the process until it works, it never works during reboots.

I reminds me of something you might experience on a desktop. Start a program, it freezes before starting, so you restart it until it works.

If that makes things a little clearer....

Sure, i understand.   I have this problem with rms sometimes as well.   but only when i try and restart rms not the server.

All i know is it connects to a few places during startup.  google being one of them.  It might be getting hung up there for some reason.

So when you run ./red5.sh and watch it load there is no errors that you can see ?

Why would it be connecting to google?

No blatant errors that I can tell.

From testing, I know that when it hangs, nothing is even listening on the ports. So its stopping before that... wherever that may be in red5 loadup.

What kind of error could I expect to see in a case like this where the daemon is just hanging?

Most of the time RMS needs up to 2 Minutes after Apache has started. So wait some time and try to go to chat again. It should connect after a while. That's what I experience.

Is there a better way to do chat, simple messenger, and video chat than RMS?  My chat keeps going down.
