REMOVING - The dropdown menu from the homepage?

.

Searched high and low in the 6.1 forum but couldn't find the answers. Found posts with transparencies and one that talked about making the dropdown fully transparent, but that didn't really addresse my issues.

.

Here the problem:

.

It's actually a two-part problem ...

The first part can be resolved if I could completely remove the dropdown menu that displays the submenu from certain homepage items. I don't want to disable or alter the dropdown ... I want to completely get rid of it altogether. Here's a screenshot to explain further ....

.

Ultimately, I'd like to insert my own full width image instead of the flash images.

That would look similar to this screenshot ...

.

... except for the fact I'll have one single image that will span the entire width of the page, while almost touching the main menu. This will become  permanent, so the drop down has got to go. I'll make another post to explain in detail what I have in mind here. Thanks for your time.

Just eliminate each individual submenu item using the menu builder - did you try that yet?  Not sure how to replace that area with an image, but Dolphin's menu system is terrible - I understand it will be replaced in 7.

Thanks Caltrade, can't believe that I didn't think of that myself .... duh !!!

.

Below the flash menu, in the admin section, there's a place for html and disabling the flash. That's where the image is going to go. What I don't know how to do though, is getting rid of the border spaces/margins .... the space that appears by default between the main menu items and the top of the flash/images. I'll try that with the submenu shortly.

.

UPDATE: No, removing those submenu options/buttons won't work because what shows up in the dropdown are not just the subtopics, but also the main menu name/title directly below the menu button, and only then followed by the submenu titles. In other words, I'm still getting the dropdown with the title of each button displayed. And no, that can't be edited away either ... the system won't permit you to create a blank. Tried both possible ways ...   :(

The Solution (well, kind of anyway) ...

.

If you're willing to use html and images or image maps in order to repplace the flash menu, then you might as well take the extra step to replace the entire menu. That's the only way that I could figure out how to get rid of the drop-down menu altogether.

.

It's not a big deal either since all of the menu link locations can be recreated in an image map, or as plain text links, and so on. Just take a screenshot of all of your fully intact menu items first. Heck, you might (just to be safe) want to hover on each of those items and make a quick note as to where the destination of the menu item goes to as that will save you time later on, when you're working on the image/text links that'll be going into that area.

.

If you want a general idea of what the end result might look like, then click on this line.

It's not finished yet, but we're getting there (slowly but surely).

Hello,

Getting rid of the drop-down menu in particular for the homepage is a tedious job. However, if you would like to remove the menu just from the homepage that you can do by modifying a few files. If your looking for this, let us know so in the next post we'll let you know how to do it.

Hi there.

Your comment isn't really making any sense to me, particularily since I only had to edit the builders section within the admin panel by removing all of the menu items that were related strictly to the main menu and the sub menu, including the actual menu titles themselves. Now although that might "seem" somewhat tedious, this actually only took a couple of minutes and I didn't have any files that I needed to open up or change either. It was a "quick & dirty" solution that worked just great for me ... as long as I can figure out how to edit the flash block next ....
