Profile button in menu bar

hello,

i am pretty new to dolphin.  i have the site running fairly good now, all except for one little glitch.

the only button i cant seem to get working is the "view profile" button in the menu bar.  also the button with the little "face" in the menu bar.  when i am logged in and i click this to go to the profile, it takes me to a 404 error page -The resource requested could not be found on this server!

however, when i go to the "account page" and click on the profile avatar, it takes to the profile page!!??  so i know it is on the server.

can anyone tell me why those 2 buttons will not take me to the profile - and how to fix it??

thanks.

How did you upload your dolphin files to your server? FTPing all the unzipped files is not the best way, to make sure all files get proper file permissions set is to upload the zipped Dolphin file to the server and extract or expand there..

I would re-check all your file permission recommended by the self install.

the installation was done as an auto install through cpanel.

what permissions do i have to change in order to fix this problem.  it is the only thing not working right now.  i have tested everything else and it seems to be working fine.

it is just strange to me that i can get to my profile by clicking on the avatar in the "account" page, but the "profile" button in the menu bar cant find it???

do i have to re-install as a self install and start all over again???  i am about 1 week into this now :(

I have done the auto install b4, not good results every time..

the best way is to cPanel the zip directly to your server and unzip there, forget the self install procedure.

since your site is new, you should do it now, you will save yourself lot of time, there are well over 5,000 file associated with this. Checking file permissions on a auto install would be senseless.

ouch... i am already live :(

if i erase everything now.... wow

i guess i can always do a new install in a different directory and get that ready to go live before deleting the other one ??

can i ask you a question about self install?

do i upload zip to the new directory and then just extract it to that directory.

right now my current installation is in my public_html/community

if i make a new directory... say public_html/newcommunity     do i then just upload and extract everything in this directory???

could you point me where to find the self install permission recommendations?

thank you so much for your help :)

ok... i figured something out.

i did the self install and fixed a few of the permissions that it asked me to do.

i then went through the rest of the procedure to the end and went to the new site.

the profile button works now!!

however, this new installation i set up with the url :   http://www.xxxxxxxxx

the old installation (auto install from softalucous) url  :  https://www.xxxxxxxx

just to see if the https  made a difference.  i did a 3 install (self install)  using url setup  - https://www.xxxxxxxxxx

went through the same process as the 2nd install for the rest and loaded the site in the browser.

the ssl certificate kicked in for the site... but ... low and behold the profile button is not working again.

for some reason that button does not like working in a secure ssl site.

my question now is - can dolphin be run on a secure domain using positive ssl???

if the whole site can't... can specific pages or modules run securely.. ie - login page and store module?

thank you again.
