Privacy Settings driving me crazy

I really can't figure out how these work.

On my site I enabled 'default' - 'me only' - 'public' - 'friends' - 'contacts'

I created 2 test profiles and put photos in an album.

I set privacy for photos to 'me only' but still everyone can see them.

I set privacy for photos to 'friends' but still a non-friend can see them.

Can someone please provide me with a decent explanation on how those privacy settings work ?

If possible, both in admin panel and in database.

@annabel,

The privacy settings in Dolphin are a mess.

In order to set photo's (or anything else for that matter) you need to make sure the privacty is set correctly on the album as well (manage album). Besides this, also check the privacy settings in your profile for photo's as this might be an issue as wel.

If you have any sugestions with regards to privacy, add these to the following topic:

So basically the privacy settings don't work?

I've set a profile up and set ALL of the privacy settings to be Friends only but EVERYONE can still see and do what should be hidden.  I've tried every privacy setting and none of them work.

Has anyone been able to figure out this (Non Bug - as Andrew put it) and secure certain sections of their member's profiles?

What is the point in having the Privacy Settings an option for the member when they don't do anything?  The only way to get the privacy settings to work is when they are set immediately when creating the post, blog, poll, etc.?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how they explained the privacy settings mess to their members?

Has any solution been found?  When I created a poll I set the vote option to friends only but it didn't work-anyone can still vote-even guests.
