When I click on Forums, it says "Profile Not Available For View" instead of loading the forum. I cannot access Forums. Any ideas or suggestions for why this is happening and how I can fix? Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

Hi, Thank you so much. The site is www . gomom . me and the link to the forum is click here |
Did the forums ever work, Or you just added the module?

Can you access the forum using the uni template? If you can, then you need to add your custom skin to modules/boonex/forum/layout. If you can't access the forum using the uni (default) skin, then you have file and folder permissions set up wrong. I can;t check it because you removed the template switch from the menu http://towtalk.net ... Hosted by Zarconia.net! |

I can;t check it because you removed the template switch from the menu You can still switch skins regardless of the menu item being there by adding "?skin=uni" to the end of the address. In this case it doesn't work regardless of template, meaning (as you said) it's most likely file/directory permissions being incorrect. I am facing the same problem. However I've checked the template files and they are correct. But I'm still getting the "Sorry, site is unavailable now, please try again later." error message. I uninstalled the forum and deleted it from the server via FTP. Then I reinstalled the mod from 7.0.5 source files. Everything works in uni. Please help Gloria Grayson |
***UPDATE**** Well it took an MIT grad to figure it out but we now have a better understanding about ORCA and why its such a WEAK forum. Since I was not able to find a REAL answer here in this DIS-unity forum, I thought I'd post our discoveries here in hopes to alleviate the pain and suffering others like myself are experiencing. 1. If you're getting the dreaded "Profile not available" error message; The issue is MOST certainly related to folder permissions. Boonex instructions suggest 777 for folders & 666 for files. But if you are running on a cPanel server or any server that has suPHP, suEXEC, PHPsuEXEC, etc. installed then change folder settings to 755 and files to 644. The Profiles error message is Dolphin's own elegant & personal equivalent to a 500,403,401 error message. 2. The Evil red "not available" message generally indicates that you have added some custom code that the ORCA does not like. In our case it was a flash player in the footer & a flash banner ad header. 3. Last but not least ... our nightmare ended when we revised the language files. ORCA does not like punctuation marks [ ' " ! . ( * % $ # @ ] in certain areas. If you take the time to compile everything from the admin panel then you will never have a problem. It just takes a little longer. However if you get smart and try to "copy & paste" or "search & replace" in a text editor like I did then ORCA will kick your ASSETS all the way to the insane asylum. Hope this helps someone Gloria Grayson P.S. I would like to acknowledge deano92964 and major@cogzidel.com for sharing their coding and design experience with us -- FREE OF CHARGE!!! Gloria Grayson |

I access the forum using the uni template and get the same error
I thought of reinstalling forum, but then I have to reinstall events and groups and since I have content there... I don't want to mess anything up. Double tear... This is what Super Geek suggests: 1. Confirm that the forum works with the uni template. 2. Confirm Boonex base permission settings as follows: [http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/wiki/DetailedInstall] chmod 777 ./inc ./backup ./cache ./cache_public ./langs ./media/app ./media/images ./media/images/banners ./media/images/blog ./media/images/classifieds ./media/images/membership ./media/images/profile ./media/images/profile_bg ./media/images/promo ./media/images/promo/original ./tmp ./plugins/htmlpurifier/standalone/HTMLPurifier/DefinitionCache/Serializer ./plugins/htmlpurifier/standalone/HTMLPurifier/DefinitionCache/Serializer/HTML ./plugins/htmlpurifier/standalone/HTMLPurifier/DefinitionCache/Serializer/CSS ./plugins/htmlpurifier/standalone/HTMLPurifier/DefinitionCache/Serializer/Test ./plugins/htmlpurifier/standalone/HTMLPurifier/DefinitionCache/Serializer/URI under /modules/boonex /forum One more thing, have you upgraded to 7.0.5 yet? If not it was suggested that you DO NOT upgrade until the Forum works. Gloria Grayson |
Thanks! I've updated all permissions as noted, but I the error as before. Also, I cleared cache and recompiled languages for forum. I upgraded from 7.0.0 to 7.0.1, then 7.0.2... after that, Is it possible that I did it wrong to cause this problem? |
All, I found the issue. Apparently Forum 7.0.2 does not like script ads. I removed the script and the forum works now. Thanks for your help. Trish |
