You know, I sure don't want to pick a fight with you but you have more trouble with Dolphin than anyone I've ever seen. Just out of curiosity, who is your host?

You know, when you have a car with a 20 gallon tank, most people would fill the tank all the way up. If you only put a gallon in the tank, the car will run but not for very long.

128M memory is the recommended minimum but most people here push it up to at least 256M. Myself, I have mine set at -1 (unlimited) . I like to fill the tank up to get the best performance for the longest time. Now I am on a VPS and I have access to my own configurations. Are you limited because you are on a shared account? I also have my post sizes set to 500M, again, far above the recommended 128M.

Just curious.....

That's amazing! 2 full posts without a single stitch of information. You never even answered my first question.

It's ok, I was hoping to get you to relent with the obscenities for a minute where I could possibly help you but I see that's not going to happen....

Good luck! Laughing

He's on a shared account with HostGator, who say quite clearly that they do not support Dolphin 7. There's some form of restrictions on the server that is causing issues for him, but I don't know what.

This doesn't seem to be a Dolphin issue.  For anyone listening or reading this. If you are really, really, really serious about running a social networking website, you really, really, really need to give serious, serious, serious consideration to moving to VPS or dedicated hosting.  Even with caching, Dolphin is a heavyweight script with thousands of lines of codes, multiple crons, javascript applets, flash widgets, fwrites, caches, database queries and a few other things.  In a nutshell, it needs resources to run properly.  If you can't afford the old school type VPS, please try to explore Cloud Hosting which should be a little cheaper.  Dolphin will fart and giggle with 128MB of RAM...better yet, it'll even fart and chuckle with 256MB of RAM.  It'll grin and poot with 512MB..but with anything above, it'll usually purr like a kitten.

It's not so much that it's shared hosting, but who you go with. If you are on a powerful enough shared hosting plan (like a grid or cluster) and have enough control over your configuration, you can do just fine until you truly need a VPS or dedicated server, which is when you begin to outgrow your current hosting, which is not immediate. If you're on a shared hosting plan that is not designed for this script or does not give you enough control over the configuration, you may run into issues. In this case, the hosting provider has placed numerous restrictions that are causing the script to not operate properly, which is an example of a bad plan.

Ok, I bet that has been posted on before. That would explain ALL of his troubles..... Mr. UFO, is this true? You're on Hostgator? You should talk to DosDawg, I bet he could set you up with a working configuration for a very reasonable price.

Yes, it is true, there are a few ...and I mean A FEW adequate shared hosts that work well with Dolphin.

Speaking from my personal experiences and experiences with clients who run Dolphin, I've just found that the time I or (we) use fighting with hosts on Shared hosting plans is simply not worth the time and/or money.  Sometimes I've found that it takes 2 - 3 days to work through a simple cron or server config issue.  The client could wind up paying me $50 - $100 to fix an issue that's really a .50 cent problem due to the time you have to commit to wresting with the hosting provider.  I'm sure many of those people in this forum could testify to some of these types of frustrations.  Then, after spending time and money fixing, many soon find out that they've simply "outgrown" the Shared Hosting plan so they have to upgrade.   This is after they would have spent good money trying to get thjeir Shared Hosting Plan to work correctly with Dolphin.  I know at least 5 people who have abandoned the Dolphin Platform, thinking that Dolphin was the problem, when it's not Dolphin that's the problem, it's usually the hosting environment.

Many times, by the time the person realizes that it's NOT Dolphin,  they've become so frustrated, that they just quit and "throw in the towel".  Dolphin is a great script and it's disappointing when someone quits for a reason that could have been totally avoided by proper recommendations from the beginning.

I cannot say this is a hosting issue or not, however I can say that I have been running Dolphin on Shared Hosting for 3 years now without any problems. The only problems I have ran into to make me switch was due to some "security" changes made that wouldnt allow Dolphin to even work anymore.

The key here, the forum works fine on his demo but not the LIVE site. They are both on the same server so it must be some other type of configuration issue. If it was hosting related, it wouldnt work on either site.

Try putting this is your php.ini file located in the root of your Dolphin. You can change the upload/post (???) values to whatever you want.

display_errors = On
allow_url_fopen = On
memory_limit = 128M
file_uploads= On
upload_max_filesize= ???M
max_input_time= 4000
max_execution_time= 3000
post_max_size= ???M

Nothing to see here

its very simple your demo site is empty 0 activity on it,, however  on your life site you have members and if you have few members online and one is viewing photos one is doing god knows what of course you won't have the needed ram to pull up the forum page..

anyway why would you make a new topic if i remember right you already have 2-3 topics about your forum issues.
