One of the most important thing Is Confirmation Email my opinion!!

So why is this sh-t   so hard to understand and work    I've tried every setting and still it does not  work the way we want and i say we cause we all want it to work the same way .... MEMBER JOINS AND GAIN ACCESS ONLY AFTER THEY CONFIRM THEIR EMAIL  simple not all this 2 steps 3 steps before a member is confirmed  if anyone has figured out how to make this thing work as stated above please get back to all of us ..... and no I'm not upgrading to 7.0.5

No that does not work. The site should function like this:

Member signs up for a profile and is sent a email confirmation link to their registered email address.

Member clicks on link and email is confirmed.

Member can now access all features and pages of the site.

Currently the member can access certain features and pages of the site without confirming their email address.

NOT GOOD!

Thanks Ue30 but I can't even understand what is being offered in that link and I don't feel we should need anything 3rd party to resolve this its been this way for a while now we are on the 5th version of d7 what they don't consider this to be a problem or our they setting in the sky some where laughing at us running in to all these freaking issues

I use that mod.  Once installed, new users can't even log in until their profile is confirmed.

I also use this one: http://www.boonex.com/unity/extensions/entry/Automatic_Confirmation_Emails

Those are both free, and very simple to install.

Automatic profile activation after joining   Should not be checked

Do not change profile status after editing profile information should be checked

Automatic profile confirmation without Confirmation Email  Should not be checked

Limit more access via the non-member membership level. they should be only able to access what you have allowed non-members and they are logged in to their own profile and limited to non-member access until they click the link on the email.

I just tested it on 7.0.4 and it works like that. and that is how it should work

By the way, this works like this because it was asked for. people here wanted the new joined member to be redirected to upload a profile pic because webmasters were pissed off with their new members not uploading a pic.

there are 1 or 2 posts on here where boonex asked for things you wanted to see in 7 and this was one of them, they can not be sent to upload a pic  if they are not logged in.

So

"One of the most important thing Is Confirmation Email my opinion!!"

Its having members that can read and follow simple instructions and not pervs who cant read and just wanna look at the pics thats important in my opinion lol

I bet your back next week bitching that new members should be forced to upload a pic when they join because most of your member dont have a pic.

Really? That's the spin you put on the decision to create this monstrosity of a membership confirmation system? The current confirmation system is abhorrent and does not work at any suitable level. Also, the entire mod to manage the membership is a joke.

Yell

He is absolutely right. You are absolutely wrong. There are many ways to force a member to add an avatar but who really gives a damn? There are a million ways to deal with that problem. We're talking about confirming their membership. The two have nothing to do with each other.

As you put it maybe I will be back bitching about Pictures. I highly doubt that but  forcing someone to upload a picture is crazy your site should be cool enough where your members want to upload pics not forced into it and if your building  a site and you over look that  than you need to reevaluate what you are trying to achieve  and as far as email confirmation being this way because off this picture fact Is some really BS...what? you mean to tell me is it  couldn't be design where a member confirms their email click on link and be taken to avatar and than forced to load a pic ....and another thing you mean to tell me having a freakin picture is more important than having a real line of communication with the few members you do have.. look you could have a thousand picture and ill take a 100 legit emails any day

well remember back then it was dating software, so it was important for dating sites to have members upload a pic on joining, so boonex ask in a free for all post, what people wanted to see on d7. and then later they posted they have time to do 5 more minor additions.

At around the same time it was announced that it will no longer be dating software, but a social software that can still be used for dating, but that pissed a few people off, and they were promised they would get dating software still. (i dont think that was a reality)

Everything works as it does because they were asked for, the membership levels are to give different people different needs for their own sites.

I see 10 people pissed off with how it works,  that mean the other few thousand have to suffer because you 10 want something different? i am happy with it as it is, it does what i want it to do.

well whole membership system should be much more advanced incl. subadmin level accounts which are now nearly nonexistikg ( have no admin restricted access) boonex claims that membership system gonna be reworked or at least enhanced in 7.1 but there is not any really clear ticket regarding that so we will see - anyway noew is membership system not sufficent at all...

How does this mod differ from the solution offered below? Is it not the same thing?

the difference is just that with the mod, the user cant login until he click on the link!
and if you change the settings like sammie sayed... than the user can login, but havent rights too, until he click on the link...
so you havent a big difference... ^^
