Is there a mod or a hack available that will display a pop-up or message box that annouces a new feature or informational notice.
Example:
user logs in. Upon login a box appears over the profile page. In the box can be a message or notification such as "Events have been updated! Check it out" or " The site will be undergoing maintenance tonight at 23:45".
