For non-members I want to setup allowed actions with limits. For example allow non-member to view 3 videos in 24 hours. This works for standard members but not for non-members. The limits just do not apply to non-members so they can view unlimited videos dispite the limit. This is nuts. Anyone have a solution? |
i do, but sense you dont like my responses, maybe somebody will come by and help you out. :) When a GIG is not enough --> Terabyte Dolphin Technical Support - Server Management and Support |
ah jeez,,cant stop laughing,,
Well I happen to like your responses, (sometimes a lot).
So is there a solution? I know the limits apply to user id and a non member
doesnt have one.
(and thanks for the chuckle)

Thanks Ron. Hmmm so it's tied to the user ID. And I guess the number of actions is stoed in the database for that user. You've gotta kind of love the nuttyness of dolphin some times!

ok slix, back to answer or try to answer. you can limit the uploads on the membership level clicking on any feature will provide a dialogue box where you can set limitation parameters.
slapping your chops nosir, most likely didnt help you but made oh so happy to say it.
if you guys need screen shots and cant find where i am talking about, i will be back in a bit.
but the settings are on the membership levels by clicking on any of the links relevant to that enabled function.

oh slix, to correct this to some degree, i would say your best option would be to disable uploading from non-members. there is a reason for this, because in order to keep yourself and your site secure from copyright infringement violations, you need to have those who are uploading streaming media, to have at least had the opportunity to read and agree to your TOS. this is a requirement when they register, which makes them a member of your site.
allowing a non-member to upload anything leaves you wide open for liability on the copyright infringement gig.
just checked again, and the same limitation parameters should be conducive to members and non-members. you can disable video add from non-members, and that will save you some grief from trying to figure out how to block your site from non-members.

slix it is to some degree tied to the memberID, but there is a table for membership levels and actions approved as well. so the membership level has an id, which is relative to a memberID, the membership_actions has an ID which is relative to the membershipLevelID
i could type the exact tables if that would help you out more.

Thanks for your non chop slapping replies Dos! I already disabled most features including uploaded from non members for those (and spam) very reasons. I am aware how to setup limits for user groups in the admin, but it seems it is not possible to set up time limits for non members i.e. may view 3 videos in 24 hours etc. These limits seem to be stored in db under the user's ID - makes sense and prevents them circumventing the limits by deleting cookies, but non members do not have IDs - not even ID of 0 or temporary ID - so it's not possible to allow them 3 profile views only before showing them the signup page. The best bet as you say is to block them from most things and encourage them to join blind. One of the problems with this is that it significantly reduces the number of pages for google to index. And reduces the content to conversion factor. |
i came across this
