No checkboxes & incorrect default values

I have two annoying little problems that I've been unable to solve.  I'm hoping someone can tell me what I'm missing.  First, I am not able to get checkboxes to display on my search forms.  They display just fine on the join page, however, anytime I try to use "multiple selector" and "checkboxes" in the search fields they are displayed as a drop-down menu with the +/- icons.  I am using the same blocks, so I would assume they should appear the same on both the join and search forms.

Secondly, the search forms are displaying the incorrect default values.  Dolphin seems to want to pick one value and not let me choose anything different.  For example, I choose "Female" to be the default selection for gender, but Dolphin always moves "Male" to the top of the selection box.  I've tried reordering the predefined values list, changing the default value in the block, and even deleting and re-entering all the items in the predefined values list.   As with my first problem, this also works correctly on the join page using the same blocks...the problem only appears within the search form.

I am using 7.0.3, unmodified.

Below is the legacy version of the Boonex site, maintained for Dolphin.Pro 7.x support.
