New page creation

I hate starting new topics when i can find one already in motion, but by and large i can't find any recent and those which seem to be still in use are listed under old versions of Dolphin.

I'm having a bit of bother with the new pages thing.

All i want to do is add a new tab at the top called radio links. When i mouseover i want it to dropdown with 4 links so the user can pick which one they want. In that sense it doesn't even need to be a page as the links wont take them to a different page, they will just open the relevant player to cope with the output.

I also require a tab called Schedule as i have a few friends who will be giving talks at certain times/dates, so for this one i do actually want a page.

So, i go to page builder. I create a page called Radio Links (or schedule) and click ok.
From there i can set columns etc and drag an html block into it should i wish to do so.
I then go to the navbar menu and it doesnt show up as something i can add.
I've read a few posts suggesting i should edit the htaccess file. Did that, uploaded it, cleared the cache, logged out and back in again and still nav creation doesnt show it available to add despite even the wiki saying it should at this point (the wiki is 3yrs old though and it refers to things that are not present so i assume its for an old version)
I have also seen a forum post about going into the phpmyadmin and finding it in the sys_page_compose and 'playing' with it from there. It does not appear in there but does appear in sys_page_compose_pages and there is nothing to edit as there are only 4 columns with exactly the text i entered to create the page.

I can create a navbar link separately but that gives me equal confusion in that i have no idea what to put into the boxes.
It wont save the default name unless i have a language key and as far as i can see nothing tells me what that is especially considering the page created with page builder does not show. I can enter a system name 'Radio Links' and that is shown in my admin panel as the tab name, but when viewing the site it shows a blank tab where i would expect it to say .... Radio Links.

I've only spent a couple of days playing with D7 having upgraded it last year but then life got in the way and i couldn't work on it.
Some things seem to be a little more obscure or absent from the admin panel compared to previous releases, i've managed to get round most of the things which gave me a headache, but this adding a page thing has caught me out.
I can write pages of css, html, sql etc for hours but i think i've probably got a bit wrapt in this and must be missing something, probably fairly straightforward.

Any help, greatly appreciated
