New member username is taken, it adds the date next to it? any other better option?
like is a member tries to join with the name mike but there is already a register member with that same username then boonex automatically renames it "mike-2013-07-02" (current date)....
any other way of doing this like before where it said name taken use another, or if boonex assigns a user id# why cant the system accept multiple users with the same name?
thanks

It can accept multiple users with the same name; first name and last name. However, the nickname (user name) has to be unique because it is used in the code for site purposes. Yes, the date thing can be changed. You could simply have the notice to tell those joining that the name is in use and please choose another. What would you like it to do? hello, well i guess after the upgrade or something when a new member joins it allows it to enter what ever username if its already taken it does not give and option it simply continues with the join process and it automatically adds the date.. the new member does not even know until its he/she is already registered. because of this I had to change login field to show e-mail

Same here on several sites, most members prefer it, and it is very confusing when they try to use the name they thought they set.
Like FB login, email... users are much more used to doing that.

Is this new in the 7.1.3 release or is it a settings thing where you can turn off adding the date? Adding the date is a poor way to handle it, it should inform the user and allow them to pick another user name; then they can decide if they want to add numerals or letters or try completely different. Boonex, are you listening here; another prime example how you need to let those running social sites tell you how such things should work. Geeks, making the world a better place |

Yes, this is new in 7.1.3, it tries to generate username by adding current date to FIrst Name field, if Username(NickName) field is removed from join form.
Before 7.1.3, if you remove Username from join form, DB error occurred during join.
