Mysql Optimization

This is one thing I have found little info on, true Mysql Optimization...  I have seen a few generic posts about tweaking for memory and cache, but thats about it.

In all my years dealing with mysql and many different programs I have learned each program works differently with mysql and settings.

Now server specs are important item on optimizing, and maybe there aren't but a couple people using dedicated servers with the know how or true understanding of optimizing Mysql.

I would love to get a true mysql admin involved with optimizing dolphin 7.04 and see what they have come up with.  Particularly on servers with some load.

Maybe some people would like to share their present my.cnf and their server specs to understand their config.  I will post up my config once I get a little more into it.  I have done some very minor changes, but just starting this morning... I truly hope there is some assistance here, and hope to get some others involved.  People always talk about performance and negatives on Dolphin, (I understand one reason, no db optimization) A good my.cnf can increase performance 1000% or more.

My server is a

Centos 5.5

Dual Xeon Quad Core 2.66ghz

12GB RAM

1.5TB Hard Drive

Nginx

php5

I will post my my.cnf shortly, want to make some changes and verify working correctly before posting.

SashaE,

I appreciate the link, I have already read that, and to be honest that is about the most minimal settings for mysql.  I am attempting to go deeper than that, see what works well with others and D7.  There are about 1000 different options for my.cnf and maybe only 25 are worth anything for running D7.

This is a digging expedition.  Again I read many people talk about performance issues, and this one item can be a huge boost to every site out there, with the correct configuration.

I am also interested to find out more abt optimization.

Great start yappity. I hope you post your findings and results here please after your research. Many users find out stuff and never have time to share.

Perhaps what we should really have in this forum is a section for a "white pages" list. Somethings that are most beneficial for users on a constant basis, so rather then searching for it all the time, they should in a vault on their own. Which is where this should belong.

Hi,

I noticed under the Hosting Server Recommendation for SQL, it says that the recommended size for query_cache = 32MB. Is this a standard size or does this increase if you have more RAM say 4GB? What is the ideal size if you have 4GB ram? Any idea?

Regards,
Razz
