I just tried to install my first module which wasn't included in the "standard" installation package.
I choose the free Yahoo Weather's module made by Fotex.
The module it's now showing in the modules list to be installed, but when i click to install, after a few seconds i get an error message : " Cannot install module from "fotex/weather/" directory Failed ".
After a quick look at all the modules, i can't avoid to notice that all the other modules are showing as a 1.09 version, while the weather's module it's the only one having a 1.01 version, maybe this is the problem???
I am currently using Dolphin 7.09.
Thanks !

what is the directory you uploaded the module? so much to do.... |
I uploaded the module to the same directory where the "Boonex"'s folder containing all the other modules is.
I just tried to click on "Delete" and do a new installation but i am getting this error's message: " Warning: ftp_login() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given in C:\xampp\htdocs\2\inc\classes\BxDolFtp.php on line 37" .
I can actually delete manually the folder by myself, but it will still show up on the list of the modules not yet installed..... .
My Dolphin 7.09 installation is located on a local server, not on the web.

its a custom module so it has to be put into its own directory. Like modules made by boonex are put in
modules/boonex/modulename
Just like boonex this module is made by Fotex so it will go something like
modules/fotex/weather
so take it out of boonex folder and put it in modules outside boonex. Hope it makes sense to you.
Good luck
so much to do.... |
My first attempt was to (wrongly) put it directly between the other modules in the "Boonex" folder, then i found the tutorial's thread and followed the instructions.
After this, it showed up on the list of the modules not yet installed.
This is the current location of the module: ...\modules\fotex_weather\fotex_weather\upload
Inside the "upload" folder there are 2 other folders, named "inc" and "modules".
Thanks.

Is there no readme file in the module zip? so much to do.... |
Yes, here it is
"Installation Guide
1.Send files from folder upload to your root Dolphin directory
2.go to administration panel and install module Yahoo Weather
Well Done.....your new module now works!"
Not much to read here, i did what it says but it doesn't do anything apart from showing up on the modules ready for the installation and then is impossible to get rid of it.
I am going to look for another module to test.
There is any way to do a "hard removal" for packages that just don't want to be deleted?
I used to have these kind of issues with spyware, i wasn't expecting it from a "module"....

What's in BOLD above should have been copied (uploaded) to your root folder.
You have two directories that needed to be uploaded.
[edit] P.S. the 1.0.1 it is the version of the module, in your Boonex modules list version 1.0.9 is correct as we are using 7.0.9 ATM..
On your module purchases, just make sure in the market page listing you research and check for the compatible with version Dolphin section.

Hi Newton27, yes i thought about copying just the folder named "Upload" in the root folder where "Boonex" is, but it didn't upload anything new.
Maybe i should manually add the "Inc" of this package to the other Dolphin's "incs" and do the same with the package's module by adding it to the Boonex Modules's folder
Do you know how can i remove this package so i can try a new fresh installation?
Thanks

Via FTP you can remove the folders you uploaded.
Your misundestanding the instructions.
ROOT of your dolphin site means the folder you installed dolphin in. Normally that is public_html for most.
Send files from folder UPLOAD to root dolphin directory.
That means upload the CONTENTS of the upload folder to the root of your site. NOT the upload folder itself, but whats in that folder. If that folder has a modules folder then you upload that modules folder to the root of your dolphin site which will merge with the existing modules folder that is already in the root of your dolphin site.
This is a simple matter of not understanding the instructions or perhaps what root means.
But to remove what you uploaded you just need to find it via FTP or cpanals file manager and remove it. Which you should do before you make another attempt.
Hi Newton27, yes i thought about copying just the folder named "Upload" in the root folder where "Boonex" is, but it didn't upload anything new.
That is NOT what newton27 said to do. Read it again. Newton27 did not mention the "Boonex" folder at all, yet your iinterpretation of it does. He also referenced folders inside the upload folder. Your nterpretation mentions the entire folder.
I have a feeling you think root means the boonex folder. That is incorrect.
